tiaraicontech free zone

Skirt, Top & Scarf (worn as a belt)- Thrifted; Necklace- The Bay; Shoes-Payless; Nail Polish- Blue my Mind by Rimmel

So much of my professional and personal life is online that when it comes to the weekend I'm all teched out! So in order to fully relax and unwind I've turned Saturdays into an unofficial tech free zone.  It's the one day a week when I try to avoid checking my e-mail, blog or going online in general.  This probably sounds absurd to many of you since we're from a generation that is obsessed with our online presence.  Not me- you could say I'm old fashioned when it comes to technology.  Sure I have a Blackberry but I don't have a data plan so absolutely no e-mails come to my phone. I have to actually check my e-mails at my laptop-imagine that! I hate the idea of being perpetually available- plus I know that if I had e-mails sent to my phone I would feel the need to answer them right away.  And twitter-what's that all about? Sure it's great for professional purposes(in fact part of my job description is Social Media Coordinator so ask me to tweet about lingerie and I'm laughing) but when it comes to personal use- I just can't imagine using it as an effective communication device.  I prefer communicating in person and when I'm spending time with family and friends, the Blackberry is put away so there's no distractions and I can focus on having a person-to-person conversation. My biggest pet peeve is when someone is texting or tweeting when you're talking- it implies that the virtual world is more interesting than what's happening right there, right now.  Ok I'm done my tech free zone rambling- I didn't mean to get so passionate about the subject! Plus technology has its benefits- Tinfoil Tiaras wouldn't exist without the computer/internet so that's a bonus! All I'm saying is sometimes it's important to step back and experience all the amazing things that life has to offer offline!

Stripes on stripes? It's just another example of how I love to mix and match! I'm linking up to Thursdays are for Thrifters and The Best Form of Flattery- c'mon you know you want to join in the fun!

tiaraiconlittle facts {sexy style}

Dress- Gifted from ML; Blazer (worn like this)- BCBG Maxria (Thrifted); Boots-Aldo; Necklace- Smart Set

I'm linking up with Rebecca with an R  Little Facts which came at the perfect time because usually by Hump Day my brain is fried and frazzled so I need all the help I can get! Don't worry- I'm not going to get all Jenna Jamieson on you- but it just so happened that my three little facts are all on the sexy side this week (although did anyone see Glee last night-pretty scandalous for High School kids!)

Photobucket

1) tantric tanning: in my first year of University, my roommate and I wanted some colour but we couldn't afford tanning at the nice salons so we found a sex shop that had $4 tanning in the back rooms. (And yes it was as sketchy as it sounds, the female shop owner was always hitting on us and the beds had burn marks -don't ask, don't tell!) Needless to say (and judging by my translucent skin, I haven't gone back- although there was the spray tanning addiction this summer but that's a story for another day!)

2) career contemplations: speaking of sex shops-I got a job at one after University but thought that an office job would be more appropriate on the resume so declined the offer (which I sometimes strangely regret).  Plus I'm not sure how my parents would feel about paying my way through school to then have me selling erotic whips.

3) lingerie love: now that I work for a lingerie boutique, my lingerie collection has doubled, heck even tripled.  I used to hang out in a ratty towel dress, now I lounge around in an adorable polka dotted silk romper.  Let's just say the man's not complaining!

tiaraiconcolour>cold

Skirt-Hurley (Swapped); Blouse (worn like this)- Gap (Swapped); Vest- Smart Set; Scarf (worn like this)- Thrifted; Boots- Spring; Earrings & Bracelets- Gifted; Nail Polish- Blue my Mind by Rimmel

You're probably wondering why my photos are taken in my dingy parking garage instead of by the Canadian fall foliage.  Well as nice as gaining an extra hour of sleep was, the problem with daylight savings is that it's now dark before dinner time.  This means that you'll probably see more indoor photos over the next few months so my apologies in advance! I wore this outfit on Sunday for my niece's 1 year Birthday party, followed by a movie with friends.  I wanted to wear something that was fun, colourful and layered.
My winter philosophy= colour >cold

I'm a huge fan of scarves so when Tammy asked me to participate in her Trending through the Decades:Scarf Edition I couldn't resist.  I decided to wear this thick burgundy scarf to tie in the colours of the skirt.  I have so many scarves I needed to move my summer scaves into storage so I have more room for my cosy versions!

tiaraiconwoot woot!

Jacket- H&M (thrifted); Polka dotted top (worn like this)-Thrifted; Striped tee (worn like this)- Banana Republic (thrifted); Sneakers- Denver Hayes (thrifted); Necklace-Macy's; Sunglasses-Aldo; Nail Polish-Chestnut by Sally Hansen
When I signed into my blog today I stared at my dashboard in disbelief.... my little blog surpassed the 200 followers mark over the weekend- woot woot! When I started my blog I only told my immediate family and a few friends about my new hobby but now, a year and a bit later, I'm delighted to share my outfits, ramblings and personality with new friends on a regular basis.  Thank you to my readers, you are appreciated, each and every one of you!

Now on to the outfit...
I never wear sneakers , preferring the sexiness of heels or the chic comfort of flats but when I saw these purple Denver Hayes sneakers at Value Village for $4.99 I just knew I had to have them.  Saturday was my first day wearing them so I decided to plan my outfit around the sneakers.  I went for a casual weekend look, perfect for a late breakfast and trolling through the antique market.

This is one of my favourite statement necklaces-I'm linking up to Tammy's Trending Through the Decades:Accessories edition.

Casual is all fine and dandy but I'm more of a dress-up kind of gal so I didn't stay in this outfit all day.  I changed into this delicate dress for date night at my favourite Greek restaurant!

tiaraiconflattering my form

Hat (previousy worn like this)- Urban Outfitters; Jacket (previously worn like this)- Gifted; Dress (previously worn like this)- Swapped; Boots- Thrifted; Tights- Smart Set; Purse- Aldo; Amber Ring- Gifted; Nail Polish- Chestnut by Sally Hansen
I haven't exactly been bright eyed & bushy tailed this week so I knew I wanted to participate in Something Old Meets Something New Best Form of Flattery challenge for instant outfit inspiration.  She chose the photo below of the always on point fashionista behind Atlantic-Pacific and I re-created her look with a fun fedora, structured jacket, patterned dress and boots (because Mr. five degrees celcius is screaming at me to cover my legs before I freeze!)

I'm also linking up to Spunky Chateau's Thursdays are for Thrifters because even better than thrifted pieces are gifted and clothing swapped pieces (like this jacket & dress) because they're free.  And who doesn't love free clothing!

{Although I don't post my outfits everyday, I do unfortunately have to wear clothes on an everyday basis.  I've been posting all my outfits on my Flickr page so I have a sense of what outfits worked and which ones fell flat.  I post my daily outfits here so if you're bored I can guarantee there are a few looks you haven't seen! Also my Flickr page is linked to the 'Outfit' tab on my blog's right hand side.}

tiaraiconchilly days ahead

Pants- H&M; Blouse- Joe Fresh (Swapped); Cardigan- J Crew (Swapped); Shoes- DIY; Ring- Boutique in Hawaii; Nail Polish-Perfect Plum by Sally Hansen

I'm linking up to two birds' Inspiration Monday challenge on a Tuesday since I showcased Halloween costumes on yesterday's post (I'm glad no one was offended by my man's costume- I thought it might be a tad risqué for the blog!) Beautiful actress Jamie King is the celebrity to be today.  I was drawn to her bright pants and patterned top and decided to draw from that look with pieces I have recently swapped and my go-to pair of coral pants (worn here and here).  It's starting to get chilly here in Ottawa, I spent the weekend washing scarves and substituting my summer wardrobe for my winter one (it's always fun to stumble across forgotten cold weather clothing in the process!) I'm not a fan of Ottawa's brisk temperatures to say the least and as the majority of my work is currently from home I foresee a long winter of condo hibernation!
