stripes and polka dots and butterflies oh my!

This weekend I played with patterns, wearing a striped dress with bright colours for my BBQ on Saturday and then mismatching polka dots and butterfly prints for my day of shopping and errands on Sunday.

Author's Note: Before hosting a BBQ, it is wise to check your condo's courtyard to ensure that there are in fact BBQs to use.  We didn't check until 30 mins before our guests were coming and as it turns out, the building manager hadn't brought the BBQs out yet.  After spending hours at the grocery store preparing for our feast of avocado salad, deluxe cheese trays, homemade sangria, hamburgers and sausages (both vegan and meat), we did what anyone in this situation would do.  As the anxious and stressed out one I started swearing and demanding that we cancel the BBQ, whereas the calm and collected boy drove to Canadian Tire and picked up a portable barbeque we could use on our stovetop.  Crisis averted!

I spent Sunday in a lazy haze of napping, running errands, shopping (I got a great pair of silver high heels and button earrings for $15), filing and watching t.v.  I'm always on the go so a day of errands is relaxing for me!

  4. I love both outfits. That butterfly skirt is amazing. I would have been freaking out about not having a BBQ. I don't really deal well with stress, or when anything goes wrong. Your boyfriend sounds like one smart cookie.

  10. Loving both outfits......seem so French to me! I am a new follower and I love your blog. I am the one that blows my cool, too! My hubby always keeps me calm... after nearly 30 years I still need him to do that! Can't wait to read more! Cheers!

  12. both of these outfits are fabulous... I really love the pattern mixing in the second, and the seafoam belt over stripes in the first! you've inspired me to pattern mix and also made me realize there is FAR too little seafoam in my life :) oh and I swear to GOD I am always the one freaking out and screaming the f-word while my boyfriend calmly solves ALL of my problems in a matter of minutes. I am pretty much the cliche, over-emotional woman stereotype, but whatever, I am just so thankful muh baby's a fast-thinkin' little problem-solver!

  13. I definitely would have been swearing with you and going into full meltdown mode. Mr. A would have been calm and collected. It's nice to have guys that balance us.

I love your Sunday outfit. Mine consists of sweats and workout clothes -- all.day.long. How disgusting.

  18. Love, love, love your last outfit!!! When are we going to go thrift shopping?!

I'm sorry to hear about the stressful before-BBQ incident... But good thing your boy is quick to react and find a nice fix :) Now you guys can have BBQ all the time.

  19. So looking forward to my June visit :) and well done, M., for the calm approach to barbeque crisis! You look lovely, Miss Emmy, as always, and I love the butterfly print mix. Your figure allows for the tucked in blouse on the leather skirt, very flattering. Movers are unloading...we may have to have a yard sale!

One of my daily joys is reading the lovely comments you leave. It may take a day or two (or three, depending on how hectic life gets!) but I will stop by your slice of the blogosphere soon! xo Emily
