Skirt, Top & Scarf (worn as a belt)- Thrifted; Necklace- The Bay; Shoes-Payless; Nail Polish- Blue my Mind by Rimmel |
So much of my professional and personal life is online that when it comes to the weekend I'm all teched out! So in order to fully relax and unwind I've turned Saturdays into an unofficial tech free zone. It's the one day a week when I try to avoid checking my e-mail, blog or going online in general. This probably sounds absurd to many of you since we're from a generation that is obsessed with our online presence. Not me- you could say I'm old fashioned when it comes to technology. Sure I have a Blackberry but I don't have a data plan so absolutely no e-mails come to my phone. I have to actually check my e-mails at my laptop-imagine that! I hate the idea of being perpetually available- plus I know that if I had e-mails sent to my phone I would feel the need to answer them right away. And twitter-what's that all about? Sure it's great for professional purposes(in fact part of my job description is Social Media Coordinator so ask me to tweet about lingerie and I'm laughing) but when it comes to personal use- I just can't imagine using it as an effective communication device. I prefer communicating in person and when I'm spending time with family and friends, the Blackberry is put away so there's no distractions and I can focus on having a person-to-person conversation. My biggest pet peeve is when someone is texting or tweeting when you're talking- it implies that the virtual world is more interesting than what's happening right there, right now. Ok I'm done my tech free zone rambling- I didn't mean to get so passionate about the subject! Plus technology has its benefits- Tinfoil Tiaras wouldn't exist without the computer/internet so that's a bonus! All I'm saying is sometimes it's important to step back and experience all the amazing things that life has to offer offline!
Stripes on stripes? It's just another example of how I love to mix and match! I'm linking up to Thursdays are for Thrifters and The Best Form of Flattery- c'mon you know you want to join in the fun!

Love the stripes on stripes !!
ReplyDeleteI also try to make weekends tech free or limit my time. My weekends are spent cleaning, grocery shopping and hanging with the family for the most part. You are so right though, we live in a world of technology! I don't tweet either.
ReplyDeleteI love your stripe on stripe outfit too. And gald you linked up to Best Form of Flattery! Its been fun! Heather
More like stripes on stripes on stripes. This works really well. I TOTALLY share your frustration when people you're talking to are interrupting to text, drives me nuts as well!
ReplyDeleteI LIKE IT!!! No, I LOVE IT!!! :D I think this outfit looks amazing on you. From your top to your shoes. I think it is so rude when someone does that. And I take off from tech Fri evening through Sunday! Just to give myself a break. It's good to step away and involved yourself in the real world. HAHA

you are so cute, I like all the quirky mix of prints, you look so ready to have fun. I love the subtle colors of the scarf as a belt and also the pink (?) heels. I'm so glad to hear that there are people beside me who resist technology, basically I'm more like being lazy, and anyways, who wants to hear tweets like "I'm doing my laundry now..." or "washing the dishes merrily".

I love the mixed stripes with a bright shoe.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm a bit anti-technology myself. Tweeting baffles me and I rarely check emails or my blog on the weekend. Nice to find a kindred spirit!
My little print mixing sister! You look great.
ReplyDeleteIt works, it really works.
I'm sorry to say my phone goes everywhere with me.... Here is the hitch. I don't answer it if I don't want to and I check the emails when I'm ready. Nothing work related.....hopefully just some happy comments on my blog.
Have a lovely weekend! New Trending post coming up shortly!
I think we've had more than one conversation about this! My phone and computer were dead one night and I thought to myself that I was unreachable and it was kind of nice, I laughed to myself thinking about our conversations about advancements in technology! Cute outfit girlie! I love that coloured scarf! and I believe we have the same shoes, just mine are black. :)
ReplyDeleteI love striped tops like this! This is a cute outfit, i like how the skirt has oblique stripes.
ReplyDeleteand as for your post, I love technology but I'm only "into" certain types- no twitter or tumblr for me!
I love the mixing of the stripes here. I have to admit I don't quite get the twitter either. I did sign up for an account because I wanted to try it, but I just don't think it's for me.
ReplyDelete(I usually take Sunday off, not always from the computer but definitely from the 'world'. And get some ME time.)
Great mix, love the outfit, you look so darn good little darling. The scarf/belt adds so much jazz to your outfit,,,great choice. Dawn Suitcase Vignettes xo
ReplyDeleteI totally understand what you mean! My husband and I have "no phone Sundays" sometimes, when we feel like it's gotten a bit out of hand, all the tweeting, texting, blogging, facebooking etc. Priorities!!!! :) Lovely blog though, I"m so happy I found you! Annnd I'm a sucker for stripes, so this outfit totally rocks. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the mix of stripes. I may start making Thursday (my "weekend" day) as tech-free as possible.
ReplyDeletehaha sometimes I get that way too lol. Wanting to disengage or not be so totally relient on my techno gadgets but I like being able to be roaming wherever I can. With my jam-packed days its a necessity because otherwise I wouldnt have any time to blog! haha.
ReplyDeleteOn another note a love how you've used both vertical and horizontal stripes in your outfit. Its hard to pull off but you've done it oh so well ^_^

Great skirt. Love the pattern.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't think to pair stripes with stripes but you make it look very stylish! :)
Thanks for sharing! I've just followed your blog and would love it if you could do the same:

I'm with you. I'll let technology enhance my life but I won't let it overwhelm it. Probably 'cause I'm old enough to remember rotary phones, carbon-paper and manual typewriters. :)
ReplyDeleteLike the outfit. Extreme but it works.
I love stripes on stripes! OR stripes mixed with pattern. It's one of my favourite looks. the idea of a tech free day is awesome... seriously might have to do that!
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of the stripes on stripes! I actually spend a lot of down time working on personal research projects that always involve the computer so I can never quite seem to get away from it :(

Sorry it took me so long to comment girl, I LOVE this look - and thanks so much for linking-up, it means a lot to me and I hope you have enjoyed it so far! I love the stripes-on-stripes here it's like print mixing but not, haha! And the scarf-belt & shoes add the pop of color that you do so well :)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about tech: I don't have a smart phone, my blog isn't connected to FB, and even the blog in itself has been a technological challenge for me, haha! I wish there was more emphasis on personal interaction, especially for our youth...
I like the stripe mixing! Love to see a fellow Canadian thrifter too! I'm in Victoria.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for reading and commenting on my blog!
Oh, and I am old school: no cell phone, just a PC at home.
ReplyDeleteLove your stripes! They compliment each other!
ReplyDeleteClever look you have there, i like myself to mix stripes and other patterns together- very nice i love it.

I love the trifecta of stripes. I agree that it is obnoxious when people can't seem to put down their phone to have a real life conversation. Anyway back to your outfit - I love the tights with the bright shoes. Very Cute

AHH biggest pet peeve is when people are tech-ing out at inappropriate times. it drives me INSANE. & having a data plan on a blackberry is the worst thing ever (my phone was going off nonstop tonight between texts & facebook), so i totally understand! not to mention snow days are THE WORST. haha!
ReplyDeleteon an outfit note you look adorable & i love the pops of color, super duper cute! :)

I'm with ya, sister! I had a (nearly) tech free weekend this weekend, and it was good, but difficult to get caught up. And I have to check my email on an actual computer too...oh, the agony! Haha.
ReplyDeleteLove this look! Stripes rock! ;D
