This past weekend, my main squeeze and I took a mini-vacation to Montréal, Quebec to celebrate a good friend's 30th birthday. It just so happened that it was also the last few days of the world-renowned Jean Paul Gaultier Exhibit at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. When it comes to haute couture, Gaultier is the man so I couldn't pass up this opportunity to see his beautiful creations displayed in person. I braved torrential rain, long line-ups in the cold and a nasty hangover (thanks to the birthday celebration's bottle service the night before) to attend. But even with all these forces against me- it was an incredible experience (and I use the term experience because the exhibit truly captivated and inspired)! I thought I would share with you my favourite photos and short videos from the exhibit in hopes that you'll feel as if you were right there with me!
{Author's Note: Special thanks to my patient and understanding man for braving the rain, line-ups and my hangover complaints to attend the exhibit with me. I know you would have preferred to stay in the comfy hotel bed and watch Discovery Channel so for your sacrifice I am grateful and promise to attend a sci-fi or nerd convention of your choosing!}

{Pay close attention to the mannequin's faces- notice anything strange?}
{If you listen closely, you can hear my man talking at the beginning- I fell in love with that low voice!}
If you want to see more photos from the exhibit, I uploaded all 51 (paired down from 100) photos to my Flikr page so you can browse 'til your heart's delight!
Wow! What gorgeous clothes! Seeing fashion like that in person is sooo much better than just looking at pictures. I went to an exhibit of all the Oscar nominated film costumes at FIDM a few years ago and it was breathtaking to see the intricate detail in person.
ReplyDeleteThat is definitely art! The black and white dress is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou look great! Loving all your colors
P.s. you don't look hungover at all! I look like death after drinking! Heather
How many ways can I tell you that I am jealous before it becomes totally redundant? You should have taken me with you. I would be your best friend for liiiiiiiiife.

Nice! Some of them have kind of an eerie feel to me, and I have no idea why, but I dig it. Off to look at your Flickr pics now, too!
ReplyDeleteP.S. You look gorgeous. You must be joking about the hangover. And I love your pink pants!
P.P.S. I watched your 16 minute long cleavage-y video last night and enjoyed every moment of it. That sounds pervy. But you know.
P.P.P.S. Glad you're on board with the Love Your Body Day post! Can't wait to read it!
Because I am an uber geek interested in strategies of representation, etc. I have to ask what you thought of the staging of the exhibit in terms of arrangement of pieces, positioning of mannequins, etc.? I can see some of it from the photos but it seems kind of anti-theatric and I'm wondering if I'm totally off on that or if it was a deliberate choice.

You are so darn cute. I love these colors on you. Your vintage bag is really pretty. What great videos and photos!!! I heard your man's voice. I still smile when I think about your 16 minute video...so honestly funny. I want to do a video but I know everyone will laugh at my south jersey accent. Dawn Suitcase Vignettes xo
ReplyDeleteI wish I had had time to get to Montreal to go see the exhibit - it looks so amazing! (although I admit that the moving model faces are a wee bit creepy)

ReplyDeleteLike your man I am very guilty of sitting in the hotel watching cable TV when we go on vacation... It is probably much better to go out like you do.
The JPG exibit looks awesome, the dresses and gowns are so beautiful.The moving mannequins looks kinda creep, they look real and unreal. Great color blocking outfit on you by the way, the purse is lovely.
