alone time

I've always considered myself to be somewhat of an introvert.  I'm the type of person who has a few close friends rather than a lot of acquaintances and I'm more comfortable in small, intimate social settings. I often get overwhelmed at parties with a lot of people and my Dad and I used to hide out whenever my sister or Mum would throw big bashes (they were blessed with the outgoing genes), preferring our solitude to socializing.  My friendships are very important to me, however I do need my alone time.  Sharing a tiny one bedroom condo with the boy definitely weighs on my nerves sometimes as I don't really have a space of my own.  When I'm at the end of my rope and need some alone time, I plan an "Emily day", a few hours dedicated to myself, without the daily distractions of laptops and cell phones.  My favourite "Emily day" activities are:

-DIY mani/pedi
-reading gossip magazines
-organizing my closet
-watching a chick flick ("Never Been Kissed" is my personal fave)
-eating candy and drinking a big glass of white wine
-taking a long leisurely nap

...and that's about it.  Usually at this point I've had enough alone time and am ready to spend some time with my loved ones!

Does this vest look familiar?  I wore a dress in the exact same pattern to the Dress for Success volunteer gala! I love the colours and the vest was only $4.99 from the GAP so I couldn't resist!

Who needs a wind machine when you can get the real thing standing on your balcony?

  2. I get so little alone time, I usually don't know what to do with myself! There's always something to do around the house or in my jewellery studio... it's a luxury just to lounge on the couch in front of the TV!

And love the blue vest :)

  3. That's such a cute vest! My only time usually involved me, a glass of white wine, a screening of Jeepers Creepers or Anaconda (yes, I have terrible taste in movies) and some gossip magazines.

  16. I don't usually get a ton of alone time since I have an uber-busy social life (ha -- or not), but I like to work out (obviously), practice yoga, take care of my blogging (DUH), and meditate. Like I said, I don't get an abundance of time to myself, though, so these activities are generally done with large groups of people surrounding me.
    Which is cool, too.

  23. I loveeeee the vest from Gap that you are wearing...you want ot know whats a great way to be an extrovert without really being one? blogging! I completely feel you when you talk about being an introvert and needing alone time. Though I can say you were very easy to talk to and so sweet when I met you at the blogger event!

  24. I very rarely get alone time because I work so often. So when I do get a chance to breathe I'm most likely asleep or blogging! BTW I love your vest-I never would've thought that it came from GAP. The whole 'fit is really cute!!

One of my daily joys is reading the lovely comments you leave. It may take a day or two (or three, depending on how hectic life gets!) but I will stop by your slice of the blogosphere soon! xo Emily
