From Volunteer Interviews to a Volunteer Gala

As some of you know I recently started a new job.  I'm working as a Volunteer Coordinator for a non-profit organization that works with children and youth.  We are lucky to have community members knocking down our doors for an opportunity to volunteer with us which means that I am interviewing at least 3 new candidates a day.  I love conducting interviews- it makes me feel like a HR specialist and it's so interesting to meet new people and here their story.  This is what I wore yesterday to interview volunteers.

Dress- GAP; Shoes- Priceless UK; Blazer- Anne Klein (Thrifted); Purse- Aldo; Belt- Thrifted

I volunteer as a Boutique Manager with Dress for Success Ottawa which I absolutely love and last night I was invited to a gala to raise money for the organization.  It was such a nice event with a plethora of beautifully dressed women (and men!) and since the focus was on footwear I broke out my funkiest shoes- a pair of Pour la Victoire that I splurged on in Santa Monica.

Dress- GAP; Shoes- Pour la Victoire; Jewellery- Swarvoski (Gifted from the boy); Clutch-Thrifted with Vintage Brooch

Did you notice I'm wearing the dress backwards with the blazer to make it work appropriate?

  1. Love the blazer/flats combo in the first outfit, and the shoes in the second one are niiiiice!

  2. The shoes are so hottttt!! I love the interview look, very cute!

  3. Sounds like a seriously cool job, I have to say!

Also - I love those shoes!!

  4. I love how you took this to the evening. Great looks.

  6. such a terrific job, beautiful outfit too :)

  7. You are so cool. I feel cool just knowing you!

  8. you look so professional and cute in the first pictures, and then the shoes make it so sassy in the last pictures :) I love it! also, I LOVE that you said "like nobody's business"! that's probably like one of my top ten most overused saying ever, I am like a Teddy Ruxpin, you pull the string sticking out of my back and I will say like one of maybe a dozen sayings, also on the list is...

"hungry enough to eat the asshole out of a skunk" (thanks dad!)
"are you picking up what I'm putting down?"
    "as all get out"
and then quite a few Tim and Eric quotes.

That's awesome you volunteer, and it's even more awesome that so many community members want to help out! you don't see that often enough!

  9. Love the blazer in the first combo. I've been wanting a white blazer for a while but I can't find one that's stain resistant. haha Is that possible?!?

I love your booties! Congrats on that purchase. It's awesome.

  10. Great post, I like the day to night looks. Those booties are amazing, I would have splurged on them too.

  11. I'm in love with the blazer! It really stands out on the dress.
And I love your clutch in the second set of photos.

are you willing to share some of your haunts for thrift shopping in O town?

  12. wowza! love how you changed that up from day to night. looks GREAT! loving those awesome open toed boots and that jacket you thrifted is fab!

  13. I love these outfits! The piping on the blazer looks really sharp and those open-toed boots are so rocker-chic. I was just trying to remember the name of Dress for Success in conversation the other day! Is there an equivalent store for menswear? Brad has some stuff to donate.

  14. I love these professional outfits. You look great, and your job sounds AMAZING. I'm totally jealous.

you had asked if i volunteered with dress for sucess. technically no. I volunter at a place that does many things for their clients, my main volunteer role is working in the thrift store which helps support about 5 other endevors. sometimes we partner with dress for success so people can shop the thrift store.

One of my daily joys is reading the lovely comments you leave. It may take a day or two (or three, depending on how hectic life gets!) but I will stop by your slice of the blogosphere soon! xo Emily
