alone time

I've always considered myself to be somewhat of an introvert.  I'm the type of person who has a few close friends rather than a lot of acquaintances and I'm more comfortable in small, intimate social settings. I often get overwhelmed at parties with a lot of people and my Dad and I used to hide out whenever my sister or Mum would throw big bashes (they were blessed with the outgoing genes), preferring our solitude to socializing.  My friendships are very important to me, however I do need my alone time.  Sharing a tiny one bedroom condo with the boy definitely weighs on my nerves sometimes as I don't really have a space of my own.  When I'm at the end of my rope and need some alone time, I plan an "Emily day", a few hours dedicated to myself, without the daily distractions of laptops and cell phones.  My favourite "Emily day" activities are:

-DIY mani/pedi
-reading gossip magazines
-organizing my closet
-watching a chick flick ("Never Been Kissed" is my personal fave)
-eating candy and drinking a big glass of white wine
-taking a long leisurely nap

...and that's about it.  Usually at this point I've had enough alone time and am ready to spend some time with my loved ones!

Does this vest look familiar?  I wore a dress in the exact same pattern to the Dress for Success volunteer gala! I love the colours and the vest was only $4.99 from the GAP so I couldn't resist!

Who needs a wind machine when you can get the real thing standing on your balcony?

Vest- GAP; Striped Tee-Banana Republic; Pants- Thrifted; Heels- Andrew Gellar; Necklace-Gifted
What do you like to do with your alone time?

  1. I play game on the computer, read and take nice long bubble bath.

    Cute Out.

  2. I get so little alone time, I usually don't know what to do with myself! There's always something to do around the house or in my jewellery studio... it's a luxury just to lounge on the couch in front of the TV!

And love the blue vest :)

  3. That's such a cute vest! My only time usually involved me, a glass of white wine, a screening of Jeepers Creepers or Anaconda (yes, I have terrible taste in movies) and some gossip magazines.

    xoxo ~ Courtney

  4. whoa! that picture where your hair is blowing back is perfect! haha, such a pretty gal :) anyway, the vest is wonderful... I've been seeing that print a lot of places in blogs lately, probably because it's so unique and pretty. thanks for the tip too! mine get SO swollen, it's like I have golf balls under my skin, STUPID 'SQUITOS!

  5. It looks great with the stripes!

  6. We're a lot alike. Everything you described about yourself fits me like a glove. And I love "Never Been Kissed"!

  7. Sounds like my kind of a day when I want time to myself. Cool vest! Never seen one like that...

  8. I have the same dress in that pattern. The exact one you wore to the gala. It looks amazing on you. I got the vest too but in plain black. I wear it a lot! You look great. So glad you got your alone time. I'm a fan of taking time for myself too.

  13. that vest is really amazing <3

  14. All of the above, and cook! Kat

  15. Girrl, i know exactly what you mean about needing alone time. I like to just mellow out and watch real housewives of NYc or Jersey Lol love your outfit! xox

  16. I don't usually get a ton of alone time since I have an uber-busy social life (ha -- or not), but I like to work out (obviously), practice yoga, take care of my blogging (DUH), and meditate. Like I said, I don't get an abundance of time to myself, though, so these activities are generally done with large groups of people surrounding me.
    Which is cool, too.

  18. You look great, and your top fits you perfectly. I LOVE never been kissed. It's such a good chick flick. I need my alone time too, and my boyfriend is the same. It works out pretty well... thank goodness or I would go crazy.

  19. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I Love that vest and those shoes : )
    You look Fabulous!
PS. I am your newest follower.

  20. I think alone time is great. For me I fiddle on the computer, take a bath, eat. The cool stuff :)

  21. such a cute vest. love how you paired it with the stripes! you mix patterns so well!

goodness, i think i like to read a magazine, nap, go shopping, have a cup of coffee...i don't really get that much alone time though.

  22. Sometimes I get so busy that I need to actively remind myself to take some me time. So, here I am (glass of wine in hand) reading blogs and enjoying a nice little evening where I totally ignore my to so list and take some me time! Hope you enjoyed your me day.

  23. I loveeeee the vest from Gap that you are wearing...you want ot know whats a great way to be an extrovert without really being one? blogging! I completely feel you when you talk about being an introvert and needing alone time. Though I can say you were very easy to talk to and so sweet when I met you at the blogger event!

  24. I very rarely get alone time because I work so often. So when I do get a chance to breathe I'm most likely asleep or blogging! BTW I love your vest-I never would've thought that it came from GAP. The whole 'fit is really cute!!

One of my daily joys is reading the lovely comments you leave. It may take a day or two (or three, depending on how hectic life gets!) but I will stop by your slice of the blogosphere soon! xo Emily
