exciting news

Blazer & Belt- Thrifted; Tank & Skirt- Gifted (from my Dad); Boots & Tights- Aldo; Ring- H&M; Nail Polish- Vintage by Revlon
 Life change....hmm in hindsight that may have been an excessive phrase to use (many of you thought I was engaged- I'm working on it but not quite yet!) but I have been known to be a drama queen after all! My good news is that I landed the job of my dreams.  It combines my degree in Social Work, my passion in women's rights and my love for fashion in one full-time package.  Starting next Monday I'll be working as the Program Coordinator for Dress for Success Ottawa (DFS). I've been volunteering with DFS as a Boutique Manager for over a year and will now be joining the team as the first employee!

The mission statement of DFS is: "to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire and the career development tools to help them thrive in work and life."

{I just love this flouncy skirt that my Dad bought for me for Christmas.  Doesn't he have great taste!? I thrifted this blazer and although it's a bit big I liked the pattern and thought it was a fun addition to my wardrobe! My new position with DFS requires a business wardrobe so I won't be wearing bright tights to the office anytime soon.  Thought I should get the funky work outfits out of my system now!}

I will also be staying in my current position as Marketing & Social Media Coordinator with Lilac Lingerie on a part-time basis so my weeks will be busy.  That's where my New Year's Resolution comes in handy! I'm excited to start this new career chapter of my life and will keep you posted on how everything is going!

  9. Em's Dad here.....thank you, I have always had a feminine sensibility when it comes to fashion (it helps having been the only male in a house of 4 daughters/stepdaughters, a wife, a granddaughter, and 3 female cats); hopefully Em will post a photo of her wearing the military blazer and the oriental business dress I also bought her for Christmas!

  10. Wonderful! Congratulations! That's so great that you're working for a company that is in line with your values. That makes all the difference.

    I'm interested to see what "Program Coordinator Emily" outfits will look like. My business wardrobe and casual wardrobe are very different. It'd be nice to get some ideas for how to mix work and weekend items. Even if your tights can't be as bold, I hope you'll continue wearing wild nailpolish.

    And you Dad has good taste! :)

  27. Congrats doll! You deserve this amazing opportunity. All that hard work you've already put into DFS has really paid off! Literally.

    So, your Dad picked out this skirt all by himself? You didn't send him a link to what you wanted? If this is the case, I would like to be adopted by him, please.

    xo,
