walk to work {my neighbourhood}

I'm fortunate enough to live and work in the same neighbourhood (my daily commute is a 5 minute stroll) and it's a 'hood that I adore.  West Wellington Village in Ottawa (Canada), a trendy area with delicious restaurants, wonderful boutiques, fabulous thrift stores , eclectic theatre & inspiring art galleries. In my five years in Ottawa, I've lived in four different communities and my current neighbourhood is by far my favourite. As someone who grew up in the suburbs of Nova Scotia and spent most my time in Ottawa living in high-rises, it's a nice change to be able to walk everywhere. It's only a 10 minute drive from downtown, it's quiet at night and vibrant during the day and it's an area I feel very secure and safe in, even when walking alone at night.

Do you like the area you live in? What do you think makes a good neighbourhood?

  1. I love location-photos like this to get a sense of places. I had no idea what your city was like, imagining white, empty, snowy wilderness. Glad to see you can walk places -- that makes a city special.

  7. I love this part of Ottawa! Lived on Parkdale Ave (just across from the market!) and loved that area, and my most recent place was in the Golden Triangle but my favourite neighbourhood to live in by far in Ottawa is Westboro. Love!

  8. wow, nice detail shots! I totally love going through photos of details ;)
    my hometown is a really small one - around five thousand people, and my house is situated next to the railroad. no problem for me and my boyfriend :P
    anyway, I don't mind living here because we both have cars and can always drive wherever we like to :)
    btw, I hope you're all well now!

  9. Pretty pictures! I would LOVE to be able to walk to work...I'm about a five minute drive away, but I think it would take me a good half hour to walk that far. Glad you're on the mend now.

  10. Gorgeous pictures. I think a good neighborhood is one that thrives. Local businesses, active centers of community, and transport are my top picks for a good neighborhood. Mine only has one of the three, but beggars can't be choosers right now!

  12. Great photos, missy! Your grandfather would have loved to see his skill emerging in his grandchild! I love where I live, surrounded by fields, overlooking the river and bracketed by the mountains. Great neighbours and a logging road to walk on, into the woods (but wear hi-vis orange coat so the hunters know you're not to be shot!). Drawback is the howling of the coyotes at night that sends shivers down your spine.

  20. So nice neighborhood! I like when I see art as well, and you are lucky to live just 5 min away from your work! I once worked for a school that was also 5 min away, I loved it!
    If I love where I live now... well, where do I live, I never know... let's say, I do love this little town in England, but unfortunately I know I won't stay here for very long... :( And it's not even a matter of choice, but government - anyway, I am having a sweet time here! Will have good memories!

  22. Sweet photos :) I really love living in Chinatown but Wellington West would be a dream to live in too, I bet. I get to walk to work myself and I'm with you on how nice that is!

One of my daily joys is reading the lovely comments you leave. It may take a day or two (or three, depending on how hectic life gets!) but I will stop by your slice of the blogosphere soon! xo Emily
