Mismatched

For as long as I can remember, I have been the kind of person who obsessively matches their shoes, outfit and accessories (think Emma Pillsbury from Glee).  Inspired by the runways and fellow fashion bloggers I have been mixing more and matching less.  I recently read an interesting article in LouLou Magazine on how to pull off the mismatched look and I thought I would share some of the tips with you:

Separate the two prints with a thick waistband or a belt.
Stripes are a great pattern to mismatch with and the finer the stripes, the easier to mix.

{Skirt- Primark; Shirt- Joe Fresh; Heels- Aldo}

So as not to have competing patterns, ensure that one pattern is dominant.

{Dress- Anthropologie; Blazer- Thrifted; Shoes- Charlotte Russe; Ring-F21}

If possible, stick to one colour palette to avoid looking like your crazy Aunt Bertha.

{Blouse- Topshop; Necklace, Earrings & Skirt- Thrifted; Flats- Priceless UK}
If you're up for the challenge, add a third print to the mix for a look that's runway chic.

{Skirt- Thrifted; Blouse- Club Monaco; Blazer- Anne Klein; Wedges-Payless}
If you're still stuck, here are some mismatched runway looks for inspiration {hautehoosier.blogspot.com}

  4. I really love your outfits. The second one is my favorite because it is bold, and colorful. All the outfits look really chic. I hope I can branch out, and try more pattern mixing myself.

  5. I'm inspired by your print mixing! I have such a hard time mixing them. I look at myself and think I look crazy, though I see them on others and think they look fabulous. I think I just gotta let go and just do it!

    You look great! Way to be bold!

One of my daily joys is reading the lovely comments you leave. It may take a day or two (or three, depending on how hectic life gets!) but I will stop by your slice of the blogosphere soon! xo Emily
