tiaraiconthat's all she wrote

Dress, Shoes, Belt & Jewellery- Thrifted; Bag- Gifted; Nail Polish- A-ha! Moment by Sephora OPI

 It’s no secret that I love colour & plaid so when I stumbled upon this dress for only $5 while thrifting I knew I would be adding it to my expansive dress collection.

I also couldn’t resist thrifting these shoes even though they gave me more blisters and leg indents from the wrap-around straps- oh when will I learn? (hopefully before I have to get Victoria Beckham style bunion surgery!)

{My friend gifted me this bag from a work trip to Vegas- I love that the sassy M&M and I share a name- and attitude!}
  And that’s all she wrote, for once I am at a loss for words (I wonder if it's a coincidence that I was wearing plaid the last time I was at a loss for words!) except to say unfortunately I left my DSLR camera at work and had to resort to my rinky camera as the photo quality is visibly poorer.

tiaraiconwalk an hour in her (animal print) shoes

Pants, Top, Shoes & Jewellery- Thrifted; Vest- Smart Set; Finger Nail Polish- Minted & Seafoam by Revlon; Toe Nail Polish- by LA Colors
I went a little crazy at the thrift stores last week (because a true thriftaholic can't resist 50% sales!) so now my wallet (and my feet) are paying the price! These animal print Chinese Laundry sandals, although adorable, are extremely painful as I'm just breaking them in (they still had the price tag on them). After walking for over an hour today my poor tootsies are blistered and aching- good thing my lunching friend had blister bandaids (with special medication so they heal faster!)

On a positive (hey, let's not complain this whole blog post) note, I started a 30 day vegan (whole foods, plant based diet) health tune-up on Saturday with the Wellness Warrior and am feeling so rejuvenated and energetic! This morning I had a green smoothie for breakfast and am more excited about cooking than I've ever been before (I'll share some recipes and photos with you all over the month).  As I've blogged about before, animal rights and not supporting factory farming is something I'm very passionate about so this switch from lacto-vegetarian to vegan just seemed like the next natural step for me.  I do love me some havarti cheese though so I'll have to let you know how I find the non-dairy substitute!

Although my feet were in pain, there was beauty on my walk-like these aromatic lilacs on the side of the highway.  Speaking of lilacs, Lilac Lingerie (where I work part-time as their blogger/stylist) just launched their new website and now you can even shop online!

Now how would you like to walk a mile hour in my (animal print, animal loving) shoes?

tiaraiconsock it to ya pt2

Blazer- Marshalls (worn like this); Skirt- Forever 21 (worn like this); Blouse & Shoes- Thrifted; Socks- Gap; Backpack & Spoon Necklace- Vintage; Bracelet- Gifted; Nail Polish- Coral me Wild by Revlon

Last week I wore a sock on my head, this week I'm wearing socks with...sandals? (insert gasp here).  Yes it's true, I'm committing what I always thought to be a fashion faux pas and the best part is I bought these floral patterned trouser socks at the Gap, specifically for the purpose of wearing them with sandals!  I think it's important I make a clear distinction here between what is acceptable in the world of socks and sandals. Canadian hockey socks and birkenstocks? Not unless you plan on attending a granola ice skating party! Delicate patterned socks and elegant heels? Pinterest says it's ok so go for it! (Speaking of Pinterest, I just couldn't get into it so after my 42 meager pins I'm saying adios, I really don't have time for another online distraction anyways!)

P.S. This cute purple ruched number is the skirt from yesterday's post, the one that was determined to flash someone!

{Considering I bought this backpack for $20 at a vintage shop in Toronto, I highly doubt it's real but hey a girl can dream!}

tiaraiconpeachy keen

Pants, Blouse, Shoes, Belt & Clutch- Thrifted; Earrings- Smart Set; Sunglasses- Aldo; Nail Polish- Coral me Wild by Revlon

The past couple of weeks have certainly been one for the books- a scattering of awkward and awesome!

Awkward:

-Having to wear a trench coat on the hottest day because my skirt kept riding up with each step I took until it was almost obscene.  And the chosen trenchcoat had front flaps so really didn't remediate the situation at all!

-Visiting open houses without checking the online listings and realizing too late that we were being shown a million dollar home... good thing we dressed up!

- The new HBO series "Girls" (also see awesome).

-Realizing that I wore my skirt from yesterday backwards almost all day (including during the photoshoot) and then accidentally tweeted about the #fashionblooper on my work twitter account...which I didn't notice until a few hours later... #awkward (which is why you shouldn't link your personal & professional accounts!)

-Thinking one of my clients was going in for a fist pump so extended my closed hand to her, only to realize she wanted a hand shake (and we're supposed to be educating them on proper interview etiquette...)

-Being the least flexible person in my Body Flow class.  There's one whole track where I just do the cat stretch because my fingers refuse to meet my toes.

Awesome:

- Spending a significant part of last Friday night watching Youtube videos about a street cat named Bob , and a baby pygmy hippo being bathed (possibly the cutest animal I've ever seen!)

-Last night's dream that Dev (from "Smash") & I were kissing in the back of a taxi- yum!

-The new HBO series "Girls" (also see awkward).

-Seeing his Holiness, the Dalai Lama speak in person about secular ethics- not only is he incredibly wise and serene, he also has an amazing sense of humour.

-Having a group of young entrepreneurial ladies (all under the age of 6) sell me their handmade pipe cleaner & bottle cap jewellery.  They were trying to charge me $4 until one of their Mums rushed out of the house saying "no, no, 4 pennies!" (I compromised and gave them $2).Business savvy gals!

-Visiting the Big Sky Ranch Animal Sanctuary in rural Ontario and feeding the adorable potbellied pig, Wilbur (the other two pigs were over 1000lbs!)

Any memorable awkward or awesome moments from your week?

tiaraiconsecondary colours

Skirt- Zara (Thrifted); Tee- Smart Set; Shoes, Purse, Brooch, Belt, Scarf , Bracelets & Shoes- Thrifted

Growing up as the daughter of an artist, creativity was all around me.  Whenever we travelled as a family, art galleries and museums were our fist stops and our garage was converted into an art studio where my Mum and I taught children's art classes together.  I'm not as skilled at painting or drawing as many of my relatives (or maybe I'm just too impatient), but I still love visiting art galleries and greatly appreciate the fine arts.  Today I'm channeling my inner Jackson Pollock with a plethora of bright secondary colours & abstract shapes.

Nail Polish (from light to dark:) Lily by Revlon; Violet Frost by Sally Hansen; Aloha Luau by Island Girl; Bandeau by Urban Outfitters & No Shrinking Violet by Revlon

{I treated my nails like a blank canvas to try out the ombre effect (they're all painted varying shades of purple, from pale lilac to deep violet)}

{No this isn`t some bizarre `come hither` pose, this is my 8a.m., sleepy, no makeup face. Why? Because we like to keep it real here at Tinfoil Tiaras!}
{Yes these are bright green shoes with a lightning bolt- enough said!}
In November I posted about Woman Abuse Prevention Month and the importance of working in solidarity to end violence against women.  May is the go purple campaign which encourages dialogue and mobilization to `help break the silence, break the cycle, save lives.`

tiaraiconrainy day helper

Trench, Trousers, Shoes, Scarf, Belt & Bracelets- Thrifted; Top- Dynamite; Ring- Zellers; Purse- Aldo; Nail Polish- Crazy for Coral by Revlon
 Today is the perfect day for a nautical inspired challenge, it's raining outside and this outfit makes me want to jump on the nearest boat and sail away to warmer lands.  Since that's not a financially feasible plan, I'll settle for looking like a satorial sailor instead.
 Speaking of rain, my love for all living creatures (including insects), started when I was a toddler and my Mum used to bring me, my sister and the home daycare children outside after a rain shower for some dirty work.  We would save the worms who had lost their home due to the flooding; pick them up (with keys if you were a wimp or bare hands if you're a go getter like me!); dig a hole and place them next to their new and improved dirt dwelling.  To this day, when no one is looking (because helping worms is cute if you're a kid, eccentric when you're an adult), I save my squirmy friends from being squashed and meeting their worm maker sooner than they should!

{My first mate Marley chomping on our fashionable flag!}

I've been good at taking outfit photos recently...almost too good because there aren't enough hours in the day to post them all so instead I'm giving you a 3-in-1 special today! Here are three ensembles I wore last week in all their unedited, after work fatigue, indoor grunge glory!

{Linking up to Inspiration Monday celeb outfit of the week- Carrie Underwood, who my Dad and I saw in concert a few years ago and besides being an amazing singer she is a true fashionista- I couldn't even count the number of her outfit changes on my fingers!}

If a fabulous ensemble is created, and no one is around to photograph it, was it really worn?
