new month, new hair

Capris (worn like this), Blouse & Clutch- Thrifted; Shoes- Fergalicious (from The Bay); Necklace- Sears; Ring- Smart Set
As a self proclaimed hair chameleon, I was feeling uninspired by my faux ombre (aka let your roots grow out for over a year), parted in the middle style (or lack there of) and so last Friday after work I decided to spice things up a bit.  Unlike many who enjoy getting their hair done, I find the whole process quite stressful, mainly due to various traumatic experiences (like my bright red hair that I was convinced made me look like a circus clown!) So I took a chance and tried out a funky salon in my neighbourhood (the homemade robot display in the windows enticed me to enter) and for the first time I really bonded with the hair stylist (we talked about everything from animal rights to plastic surgery) and enjoyed my experience thoroughly (and didn't even flinch when the total was displayed on the cash register!)

At the salon I opted for long choppy bangs, chunky highlights and a trim.  I feel much more like myself and am excited to see how a sock bun will look with my new 'do!

And because it's impossible to replicate the perfection of the salon, here I am with my new favourite hair stylist, Carla from Character Salon! (You can see my wash out purple streak if you look closely to the left, I was inspired by her colourful locks!) If you're in the Ottawa area and are looking for a new stylist/salon, I highly recommend Carla at Character! (in Hintonburg)

Do you enjoy going to the hair salon? How often do you change your hairstyle?

  1. Your new hair style is great! The bangs are so much fun. So glad you found a stylist you bonded with. It's so important to have someone who is familiar with your hair and can make you feel comfortable.

I have gone to the same stylist for many years, but I still hate going. Mainly the cost is outrageous, but so worth a good haircut!

  9. when i was in my early 20s i changed my hair all the time. i'd go from bobs to long hair to pixies, etc. i loved to color it all sorts of colors. but now that i'm older i seem to stick to the same thing... long hair, usually bangs, and medium brown. i recently started getting highlights though.

anyway, i love your new do. the chunky highlights are fab. and this red and purple outfit is also amazing. those shoes are too cute.

  10. I just got back from the salon as I read this. I like the highlights, they look great! It usually is such a bother to go the salon, eesh, but I always have such short hair and different colors that I need routine maintenance, blech. at least you got to go this whole year making your hair DIY hombre without any salon hassle!

  11. Oh, I love it! It's so fresh and fun! And you can really pull off the blunt bangs. So glad that you found a wonderful new salon. I always get a little nervous trying out a new place, but sometimes the results are totally worth it - like you proved here. You look adorable, Emily!

  12. I used to be a nervous wreck when getting my hair done,
But I'm pretty comfortable and not afraid of changing up my hair all the time now,

I got my hair done on Sunday, I must say our bangs look awfully similar, but I went darker,

Anyway, you look great, I'm loving the colour of the highlights esp.!!

  14. going to the hair salon is SUPER expensive here in Estonia and that's why I try to ignore the hair salons as much as I possibly can. for instance my mom cuts my hair sometimes (like once a year or once during two years). though sometimes I still need to go, for example when I want to get highlights like you have.
anyway, enough of me! I actually wanted to say I love your new hairstyle and it looks SO fresh and cool! such a good decision! oh and the outfit is great too. I like the bright shades you're wearing.

  15. Emily, I LOVE your new hair style. You look beautiful and super CHIC, i just love it.

My hair is naturally curly and right about night I'm crazy bored of it, I really want to blow dry it straight for a little change but need to wait for less humidity otherwise I'll look like Mufasa (Lion King)...lol

I have to say the last time i did something drastic was 5 or 6 years ago! it took forever for my hair to grow out again.

  19. Fun! Your bangs really suit you. I've been thinking about getting my hair cut...the ends are getting scraggly. It's hard to find a stylist you really bond with, and I'm still looking for the perfect one out here.
