old soul

Top (worn like this)- Smart Set; Skirt (worn like this)- Spoof (Toronto); Necklace- E-Bay; Bracelet- A SweeT; Shoes- Suzy Shier (Beverly Hills)

When people meet me they tend to say things like "oh you're so young", which often throws me off guard because despite my physical age, I feel much older than my years.  My Mum says I've been like that since a child, I was always quite serious and contemplative.  I remember visiting Toronto as a child (which was the big city compared to where I grew up in suburban Nova Scotia) and giving all my spending money to the homeless and vowing that I would one day open a shelter (and this was before I started primary school!)

I'm a worrier by nature and I tend to be overly sensitive toward others (hence studying Social Work in University and becoming a vegetarian). My man is 13 years my senior but I don't notice it until others mention it, because to me, we are on the same page in life. Sometimes I get along better with colleagues my parents' age than my peers and my days of drinking excessively and dancing the night away are far behind me. That's not to say I don't like to have fun, I'm eccentric and silly (and love children activies like playing board games and visiting Lego Land), but sometimes I feel like I'm a 54 year old trapped in a 24 year old body..which to me is the best of both worlds!

Do you act your own age or do you feel younger or older than your physical self?

  1. Nothing wrong with being "wise beyond your years" so to speak! I think I've always been a little bit that way, I was an only child so I was around just adults for quite some time when I was younger. For that reason I do get along well with folks twice my age easily!

I love your shirt and that necklace is too fun!

  2. There is nothing wrong at all about being beyond your years. I've always felt like I get along better with people older than I am. I feel like an old woman sometimes because I just don't enjoy the wild parties or going out like most people my age do. But I've learned to be okay with it. I'd rather focus on my future and the things that interest me.

Adorable outfit today! It's so flattering and femme. And I love the bright nail polish!

  3. Hmm I've honestly never really thought about it! That probably means I act my age. Your waist is so tiny in this outfit, I love that skirt on you :)

  4. You look stunning in this ensemble!
I'm also an old soul; I never really think anything of it until I say "I'm so old" around a colleague who's more than twice my age. My feeling is, as long as you're happy, who care whether or not you act your age.

  5. Nice to see you my little friend! I am 54, and many times feel like a 24 year old trapped in a 54 yr old body! When I think of the alternatives I guess I'll take it.

  7. I am such an old soul. I feel connected to everything antique, classic and aged. I guess that is why I love the seniors so much. I feel younger than I am some days. I love your necklace and this outfit...so slim and sexy gir. dawn suitcase vignettes xo

  8. well, I think usually I act pretty much like my age requires but there are some things/situations where I can be a bit more childish, for an example I like all kind of cute things (sometimes even toys) which I don't obviously need :P btw, I wanted to say your bracelet is really cool! and the necklace as well.

  9. Loved the match - top, skirt and belt! It looks lovely! Well, as you know by now, I'm also a vegetarian, very much criticized by everybody - from family to friends - for deciding it when I was a child (around 9). I don;t regret it a single day since then. Have yu been criticized for that?
I don;t know, I am very adventurous but a couple of years ago I started being a bit more serious, yes... well, it was part of a turning point in my life, when people WILL change for sure - you know my parents died in the same year, so that's why I changed...

  10. I loved the pictures taken in 2008! You look always gorgeous! And what I most love is your art journal! And that sentence about expectations, perceptions or limitations is FANTASTIC! I may paint something like that too, because it is simply amazing! I loved it!
The lyrics are also deep, I love to read the lyrics at the end of your posts!
Do you wxhibit your paintings? They are great! (But well, I am sure you hear this all the time!)

  13. Very interesting. I feel older or younger depending on who I'm with. Some work colleagues made me feel young and inexperienced, but hanging out with people my own age makes me feel older because I'm at a different point in my life.

One of my daily joys is reading the lovely comments you leave. It may take a day or two (or three, depending on how hectic life gets!) but I will stop by your slice of the blogosphere soon! xo Emily
