Pants (worn like this and this),Trench, Shoes, Tee, Scarf & Belt- Thrifted; Bracelets- Mingei Museum (San Diego) & Gifted; Earrings- Sears; Nail Polish- Sew Psyched by Essie My family and I used to go camping every summer in Prince Edward Island (a beautiful island on the East Coast of Canada that Rebecca calls home). If my memory serves me correctly, it rained almost every summer and as luck would have it, we had a leaky tent. I loved the long walks, the exploring and the wildlife but when it was bedtime I did not look forward to sleeping in the tent (which, unless you're equipped with air matresses and deluxe sleeping bags, feels like you're lying on the ground). Now as an adult, when someone says camping, I say hotel (or cabin, really anything that's elevated off the ground with a solid door and comfortable bed works for me). My idea of hiking in Mont Tremblant was wearing a maxi dress & heels on the snowy mountains so I'm not the most outdoorsy person to say the least (but I hugged a tree for this photoshoot, that counts for something right?) I may look like a savvy camper but my friend's caption of this photo (taken in High School-where is this lovely tan coming from?) reads 'Emily pretending to light a fire, who are we kidding we don't know how to camp!' (My friend -aka Molly from the grownup diaries- reminded me in the comment section that we eventually got the fire going...by flirting with the men in the adjoining camp site and that all we ate all weekend was McDonalds and watermelon candy ...I think that proves my point quite nicely!) |
Are you someone who is at one with nature or are you more in your element at the W? (my personal fave!)
omg why were you so jacked in high school?? crazy!

Given how attractive you look in brightly-colored chic clothes, you really belong in a sophisticated urban environment -- and not in grungy gear out in the rain. Fun post.

ReplyDeletevery pretty outfit Emily, I like the colors of this outfit and that red jeans is fabulous. You look very cute in the camp picture and your friend added a very funny caption. I can't light a fire too.

I love the way you used the scarf in this outfit - very cute and colourful.
ReplyDeleteI'm the same as you - I am not a tent dweller. I enjoy indoor plumbing and not sleeping on the ground too much haha. Give me a cabin any day!
I'm not a fan of tents either.. my boyfriend is though.. last time I was trying to sleep in a tent I heard some creepy noises and moved into my car which seemed more harmless, haha.
ReplyDeleteyour outfit is gorgeous btw! that colourful scarf, pants, accessories, everything looks so spring-like :)

I would like to point out to your lovely readers that we did eventually light that fire ... by flirting with the boys at the next camp site and getting them to do it. Also, we ate McDonald's for every meal on our camping trip. Oh, high school! Fun times!
ReplyDeleteI not in to camping that much. your look great.
ReplyDeleteI can't camp for shit, Emily. I'm not particularly crafty with sticks and a flint either. I went camping with my girl scout troop once and woke up swollen everywhere. I think I was allergic to everything.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the earrings!

We spent so many summers camping when I was a child. It was fun then, but I've sort of grown out of it now.
ReplyDeleteReally love the bright colors today! The red and bright blue really pop against each other. And the belted scarf is such a fun detail. Have a great week!
Yeah, I'm not really into camping. The whole thing with bugs and being outdoors 24-7 and all that stuff just doesn't appeal to me. Now, I'm in my element on a beach for a few hours near a hotel where I can go back to shower and then go out to dinner some place fancy. =) That's the kind of camping I like to do! ;)
ReplyDeleteI love all of those bangles!!
I understand you, completely! I'm a city girl and never camped. Here, a friend of mine who loves nature (I'm not saying it's bad, just that I prefer cities) always invites me for long walks and I try my best to stay home reading or to go to the town to buy some earrings and whatsoever!
ReplyDeleteBut coming to your outfit, I loved it, as usual! The earrings, the scarf!!! (fantastic!) and red pants with blue shoes - lovely! I love the color of your nails too!
I so relate to this...we always went camping with my mom when I was little because she loved the outdoors...but I always ended up getting sick, hated how muggy and hot it was, got wet at night if it rained, and generally felt disgusting because I couldn't shower or change clothes. So I'm definitely a city/hotel type of girl...definitely!
ReplyDeleteLove your pattern mixing here with the bracelets, top, scarf...really pretty and bohemian feeling :)

I'm not outdoorsy at all, and I refuse to go camping. I'm convinced I'll be eaten by bears.
ReplyDeleteI love it when people belt their scarves, I've never quite pulled this look off but i think it is lovely on you.
ReplyDeleteemily, i like the details of your shirt with the scarf, bracelets, & earrings! i was thinking last night, how i wanted a pair of red pants, like i used to own a million years ago. me camping? ha! i like electricity, running water, & a roof over my head. i'll hug a tree too, but roughing it? i don't think so. ;)
ReplyDeletei love your bright pants, jewelry, and awesome nails, this is such a great outfit!
ReplyDeleteand that picture of you from high school is amazing - how much you have changed.
i'm not an outdoorsy person myself, i have asked my husband (an eagle scout) to take me camping, and he mostly just laughs at me.

I love how you wore your scarf! So cute :)
ReplyDeleteI'm totally not outdoorsy either, but I actually quite enjoy camping (in a tent) and do rather well with no running water or electricity for a long weekend...any longer, probably not so much..haha

I'm like you--I'd rather stay at a hotel than camp! It's just too much for me, I'm no good at it! I love this colorful outfit, especially those awesome pants! Oh, and happy belated birthday!!
ReplyDeleteI love your brightly colored look. Also I tend to glare at people who think camping is fun. HOWEVER, I would like to go for a hike on a not-so-hot, not-raining and dry day. I haven't done it since it often involves dirt and bugs and well, outside.. but I still would like to do it.
ReplyDeleteI've decided that I could survive in the wilderness if I had to. But I very gratefully don't and sleep in a nice comfy bed, and not in a tent.
I am not an outdoorsy girl either. At all! HaHaHa I'll take the indoors anyday.

you know it well how to wear those colors and prints! Prince Edward Island sounds very interesting! I also saw you have such great taste on nail polish colors...
ReplyDeleteI have never gone camping. It would be a total and complete failure. Besides, I'm terrified of the outdoors. You look so beyond adorable in that camping picture! I totally would have flirted with guys camping near me so I wouldn't have to do some of that work.

I love red pants! Your scarf is so beautiful and I love the subtle pattern mixing going on here.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! Love your red pants. You look stunning. I am so not the outdoors type.
ReplyDeleteMy idea of camping is also spending the night in a hotel. Hahahahaha. You look lovely in these pictures, though. So lovely.
ReplyDeleteLove your color coordination! Those shoes are to DIE FOR. And adore your gray nails!
ReplyDeletePS- I hate nature. Nature hates me. I do not CAMP. Repeat: DO NOT.

I'm definitely at one with nature haha, my idea of camping the right way is roughing it! My most favourite camping experience was the one night I slept out next to the fire, not in a tent. At one point in the night I woke, the fire had died down to glowing red embers, and the sky was dancing with the Northern Lights. Apparently it started to rain later in the night and my father just covered me with a tarp and I slept right through it haha, I woke up the next morning and didn't know why I had a tarp on top of me :D
ReplyDeleteGreat scarf! I love how you've belted it too.
