nautical cheap

Pants, Top & Shoes- Thrifted; Blazer- Swapped; Necklace- Vintage; Nail Polish- Dreamer by Revlon
I'm someone who takes a while to warm up to trends.  I bought my pair of coral pants a few years ago, before coloured trousers were all the rage.  I've been seeing red jeans all over the fashion blogosphere, on the streets and on the catwalks but didn't think the style would work for me.  So when I found these red skinny jeans at my local thrift store for $4.99 I was pleasantly surprised by how they fit and how easily they could be incorporated into my wardrobe.  Now that I've finally embraced red jeans, I hope they don't go out of style anytime soon because I'm already envisioning all sorts of different ensembles featuring my new find!

I call this look 'nautical chic cheap'.  The whole outfit was under $50, the necklace being the most expensive item!

Navy blue striped top- $4.99 (thrifted)
Navy blue pinstripe blazer- free (swapped)
Red jeans- $4.99 (thrifted)
Grey heels- $15.99 (consigned)
Silver spoon necklace- $19.99 (vintage)

My sister was behind the lens for this photoshoot and captured my improving balancing skills (thanks to Body Flow) as I was trying to put my boots back on without my bare foot touching the snow!
Jacket- Old Navy; Mittens & Scarf- Gap; Boots & Belt- Thrifted

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

  14. Emily,
I love your outfit! You look amazing. I definitely think the colored pants are staying for a while. Lately, I have been seeing pastel colors like we saw last spring with the pink jean fad and everything, but the bold colors won't leave us anytime soon... at least, I hope not! I love them so much! Even if it's just you and I wearing them until we wear ours out... haha It's all I've been wearing lately. I honestly can't remember the last time I had plain jeans on. I find them so easy to style--they work with simple basics. Anyway you look gorgeous! I love your outfit!

  15. Even if they do go out of style, it's not a big deal because you only paid $4.99 for the jeans! I should go thrifting and try to find some for myself... hope you're having a good time with your sister!

  22. I really like the whole red pants trend, skinny, flared, high-waisted etc, they're all great. you lucked out wiht your thrift find 4.99! I'm still looking for a pair, I want a pair that are flared but haven't had much luck though I've seen them on a few blogs.

I think an Ottawa blogger thingy/meetup/night is a great idea.

  23. Haha, who knew style blogging was such a good workout?

I'm impressed that your entire outfit cost less than $50. Everything looks great together. I have a few nautical pieces in my wardrobe too, but I could use some red jeans.

  24. Hahaha!! That's some good balance there. =) I got myself a pair of red jeans and they turned out to be too big. So, now I'm back on the hunt for a pair!

  25. $4.99, that is awesome for those cute red jeans! They look fantastic on you! I really hope they don't go out of style anytime soon either, because I wear the heck out of mine!

  26. Oooh I like what you did with the blazer. I think more fun than getting clothes at a swap, is seeing how others wear your old stuff. I can't believe you thrifted those red jeans. THey fit you like a glove and look like more expensive than the $5 you paid!

  27. What a perfect outfit, those shoes are something I probably wouldn't go for if I saw them on the shelf at a store but they look incredible on you and I would be kicking my own butt if I ever passed them up! Xo Lori
