Winter Jacket- Sears; Cardigan- J Crew (Swapped); Dress- Zara; Belt & Ring- Thrifted; Knee Highs- Urban Outfitters; Boots- Spring; Hat- Gap; Glasses- Gucci; Bracelet- A SweeT Boutique (Beverly Hills); Nail polish strips- Laced Up by Sally Hansen Today's fashion challenge prompt is jacket over cardigan so I wore my favourite purple wool jacket over a swapped cardigan. I absolutely love cardigans but after taking a quick wardrobe inventory, discovered that I only have 3- this one and two leopard prints! I will have to remediate this situation as soon as I have more than two coins to rub together! |
It's interesting how our fashion sense evolves over time. If I had told 15 year old soccer stomach Emily that in only a few years I would be wearing cardigans and tucked in blouses, I would have scoffed. But here I am, aged 23 and I find myself drawn towards pieces that I would have historically categorized as grandma-wear. My wardrobe proudly contains crochet capes, vintage clasp purses, oversized sweaters and lots of faux fur (no wolves howling at the moon or elasticized pants...yet...)
Has your style evolved over the years? What do you find yourself gravitating towards that you would have previously mocked?
{P.S. Bonus points for who can name the song and singer that my post title was inspired by!}
The dress is super cute and I love the socks and boots combo :)
ReplyDeleteOh yes, my style has definitely evolved over the years! I was just like you at age 15 - never though I'd wear those kinds of things and now they're staples in my wardrobe!
ReplyDeleteAnd I LOVE your dress. The print is amazing.
And is the song in reference "Don't Walk Away Renee" by a group who's name escapes me? :)
My style has definitely evolved. But then sometimes, it just goes right back to my kawaii days. I guess I just can't outgrow it! hahaha. And I heart that dress, Emily! It's lovely with the cardi.

Absolutely! I think my style changes with each season and trends. I have many pieces that Ive kept over the years, but I find myself gravitating more and more to my moms closet.
ReplyDelete1) Love the outfit! The mixed prints in the belt and the dress are awesome.
ReplyDelete2) Sam Roberts sings "don't walk away Eileen", so maybe that one?
3) Styles change so much over the years. When I was 15, all I cared about was jeans and a tee. Now I wear jeans and a tee on the very most lazy of days!
It's great when our style evolves. That shows attention and growth. In terms of fashion, there's an ocean between where I am today and where I was just two years ago. Blogging gets all the credit for that.
ReplyDeleteI think this is one of my favourite outfits from you and I love everything about it! all the colours, patterns, accessories - everything looks perfect :) and actually my style changes have been similar to yours. I feel like I can wear whatever I want :P

I grew up hating the color navy, and I would refuse to wear it--I didn't even wear blue jeans! It took years, but navy has grown on me. It's still not my favorite, but I appreciate how well it pairs with other colors.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great outfit! Love that you belted the cardigan too. Both of our styles have definitely evolved over the years. We have tried so many things we thought we would never do in a million years! Have a wonderful weekend :)
ReplyDeleteEmily this outfit is just gorgeous on you. I love the all of the different textures and colors you have going on here. Great job! 3rd photo down is exquitsite...mag. worthy. dawn suitcase vignettes xo p.s. will you go to my site and vote for me? thank you it would mean so much.
ReplyDeleteI love everything about this! The dress is gorgeous and the cardigan is so pretty with it.
ReplyDeleteyou look nothing like a grandma. nice classy, polished outfit emily with glasses.
ReplyDeleteI think it's fashionable to emulate the fashion of our parents' parents. I told a guy I work with that he was channeling Mr. Rogers, and it was both meant and taken as a compliment.
ReplyDeleteI have lots of cardigans, just can't seem to make them work these days. Too bad we weren't geographically closer!
I really love this outfit! Layers are so fun and you look like you are warm and cozy out there in all that snow. Definitely love how you belted it as well.

I really like the mix of the 2 prints in your belt and your dress. It's something I'm pretty cautious about doing myself (plus I own way more solids than prints) so I admire it on others.
ReplyDeleteI never thought I'd find myself in anything high-waisted, or for that matter anything thrifted after two very unsuccessful trips when I was in high school. I think the big difference is confidence. In high school most girls don't want to deviate too much from the norm.
Great layering. It can be tricky to not look bulky, but you pulled it off
ReplyDeleteI would say pattern mixing has been my big change in my thinking.
Have a great weekend and i love the snow lice!

Wow- I love everything about this look! The snakeskin dress is beautiful and the belt and cardigan only add to it (though I wouldn't have thought of it because of the dominant print of the dress).
ReplyDeleteI love this dress! The pattern's awesome and I like the little pattern mixing with the belt!
ReplyDeleteyou layer it so well
ReplyDeleteAaaah you look so pretty! What lovely colours, and they work so well with the dress!

Yes, but the "grandma wear" is done in such a modern way, I love it! And I love the layered cardi + jacket!
ReplyDeletethis is such a fan dress, very bohemian.

loooove this look, Emily! I kinda have a "grandma-style" too, haha! And I agree with you, years ago I would never dream of wearing anything on my waist (much less tucked-in) and now I almost never don't!
ReplyDeleteI actually used to never wear dresses or skirts, and only wore jeans. Now it's the complete opposite! I made the switch gradually through 2009, and now I can't imagine wearing pants.
