work wear

The first week of any new job is challenging- there's the inevitable learning curve, the influx of e-mails and the outfit dilemma of looking professional while still injecting personality into your ensembles.  I started the week with trousers and muted colours and ended with colourful tights and a bit of workplace sparkle.  Whatever your career, it's always advantageous to dress for success!

Highlights of my first week included starting to set up my work space (I'm surrounded by clothing, shoes and jewellery- an office view doesn't get much better than that!) ; meeting the amazing women (and one man) who will be volunteering with the mentorship program and attending the soft-launch of a personal style workshop (which will be offered to clients over the next few months)Social work and fashion- who knew they could co-exist?

I'm linking up my Day 5 outfit to Inspiration Monday where beautiful actress Emma Stone takes centre stage in a fabulous green tuxedo jacket, black trousers and t-strap heels.  I wore a toned down, work appropriate version of Emma's outfit (not to say that I won't bust out my brightly coloured pieces in weeks to come!)

  1. I'm so happy for you that you found such a fulfilling job! Your work outfits look stylish but appropraite--no frumpy suits (yea!). I really like that bracelet in your first picture.

  3. I loved Day 1!!! Really cute and looking so professional! Not that you didn't look professional the other days, but # 1 would be my choice to start a new job!
In fact, I loved all your outfits and nail polishes!
This week I didn't feel inspired for Inspiration Monday... it's summer where I am now, and I do have a green blazer - but not for summer... my black pants are in boxes across the Atlantic, so... I decided not to take part today.
Have a fantastic time at your new job!!!!!

  4. Starting a new job can be rough, including figuring out what to wear with in the confines of a new office. But, I think you handled it perfectly. You look professional, but still interesting.

  5. How awesome, this new job sounds like it was tailor made for you! Love the ring in your 'Day 2' look. When I get a new job I tend to keep the fashion toned down at first too. There will be plenty of time for bright colors once you've settled into the new routines.

  24. I hope you're enjoying your new job! Balancing style and professionalism can be tricky but you pulled it off with aplomb. I love your accessories on day 2, and how you punched up your abstract print skirt with colour on day 3.

One of my daily joys is reading the lovely comments you leave. It may take a day or two (or three, depending on how hectic life gets!) but I will stop by your slice of the blogosphere soon! xo Emily
