crop top

Blouse- Zara; Skirt- Thrifted; Tights & Mittens- Aldo; Heels- Charlotte Russe; Hat- Alfred Sung for Zellers; Winter Jacket- Old Navy; Necklace & Bracelet- Joe Fresh; Nail Polish- Posh by Revlon

The adult version of a crop top is either worn with a longer shirt underneath (as seen above) or with a sassy strip of stomach peeking out (unlike the kind one used to wear in Junior High flaunting your adolescent stomach with no shame- refer to last photo of this post).  I'm all about flaunting what you've got but in moderation.  If I wear a mini skirt, I'll ensure my top has a high neck and if my shirt is low-cut than I willl wear a pair of pants or a longer skirt. It's too cold to wear any revealing outfits in the snowy Canadian wilderness so I knotted my favourite leopard print blouse and paired it with winter whites, bright tights, a fun hat and simple jewellery for a winterized crop top ensemble.

{Wondering what's with the shoes? I took these photos for a contest I entered that I will tell you about if-fingers crossed-I win!}

Here's photographic evidence of my 15 year old self in all my crop top, soccer stomach glory (note- both of these photos were taken at school- I was always trying to bend the clothing rules- good thing I didn't attend private school!)
{1st pic: I'm in the middle showing off my newly pierced belly button & 2nd pic: I'm on the far left with my favourite shirt from Sirens which read 'Athletic 76'- classy!}
Do you like cropped tops? If so, how do you  rock your crop top?

  1. What a great post Emily...my eyes were immediately drawn to the shoes. What on earth are you doing...can't wait to know about it. Love the copped top then and now...you still have the same body. Great outfit and fun photos. dawn suitcase vignettes xo I am also loving cropped sweaters right now.

  2. That was the age when I wore them! hahaha You can still rock that look. I have too much of a pudge. Love the shoes. Reminds of the video with the 80's group Nu Shooz. Fingers crossed. Hope you win!

  3. I never really wore a cropped top, but now it would definitely be layered.
    Love your little shoe army, haha.

  5. You look super hot, woman! I love the bright tights! I don't wear cropped tops...other than the ocassional cardigan. Cropped doesn't work well with me... :)

    now, when it comes to crop tops I have layered my crop top with a lace bodysuit since it was autumn and not too hot outside, haha :P

  8. Now that I'm older and wiser (and not quite as thin and toned), too, I like to wear them knotted over a little dress or top like you did! I love your red tights!

  10. I prefer cropped jackets, however I think anything longer and fitted tends to look better on me anyway. I love how you "cropped" your shirt to fit with the challenge. Also hello shoes! So cool.

  11. You look so cute Emily! Too bad you weren't wearing the red necklace at this point in the day because that was just the cherry on top of this great outfit. Good luck in the contest (I'm mystified!) The shoes remind me of an installation I saw in Sydney's Sculptures by the Sea exhibit. A long line of shoes 'walking' towards the sea, all covered in glue then dipped in sand (like the glitter DIYs on the blogosphere these days).

  12. Am intruiged and appreciative of the line of shoes...striking visual with the snow! You look lovely in these shots, and I remember the clothing "discussions", which included lines such as "young lady, you are not leaving the house in a skirt that short!" Well, you actually turned out quite well in the end ;)

  15. Love the white skirt, so much! I can't remember if it was during my super ripped ab days, or just after them (getting my first job at a candy store was bad news bears!), but there was one day in high school that I was wearing a shirt that had a tendency to ride up, and a guy (the local bad ass) stopped me and said: "You're giving me the wrong impression about you, I know you're not that kind of girl" I thought it was a strange comment - even in our conservative town, bare midriff was still fairly common amongst all kinds girls. I forgot all about that until today!!

  18. I do love a good crop top, but if I wear one now it's only with the tiniest sliver of belly out and about. I feel I am too old for much else. I love what you did with your leopard top and the tights are amazing. Your pictures are adorable too, I hope you win whatever contest you entered :)

  22. This looks like a fabulous summer outfit incorporated into your winter wardrobe, just add a pair of cute red tights and classy winter coat. The bare mid riff crop top looks so cute. I use to wear them too.Now i use them more for layering.

  23. Love your leopard crop top! And the pic with all the shoes is so interesting!

    Awhile back, I got rid of all my crop tops. Now, I'm a little sad because I've found that I like to wear them over maxi dresses! Oh well!
