Because I like shopping and fashion, people assume I'm high maintenance when in fact when it comes to my beauty routine I'm anything but. It takes my man almost an hour to get ready in the morning whereas I wake up 10 minutes before I need to leave the house. My secret? Laying out my clothes and showering the night before so that all I have to do when I roll out of bed is brush my teeth and hair and get dressed. My makeup routine is so minimal (a swipe of mascara, lip colour and some bronzer) that I've perfected applying it either on the bus or if I'm driving to work I'll do it on the highway....(I kid, I kid, I apply it at work since I'm usually the first person to arrive and I have a handy dandy mirror in my cubicle).
Sea of Shoes recently shared her beauty tips for low maintence gals so I thought it would be fun to share mine:
-Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Because Canadian winters are so harsh, my skin is the first to take a beating. I have a bottle of moisturizer by my bed that I apply nightly as well as a daily moisturizer with SPF that I wear during the day.
-Take care of your pucker. I'm prone to chapped lips so I always have a chapstick (Blistex Silk & Shine is my favourite) with me in my purse, at work, by my bed and in the car.
-Exfoliate in the shower. Not only does it feel great, it also removes dead skin and keeps your skin silky smooth!
-In my opinion, au natural is always the best look for daytime. Save the dramatic eye liner and fake lashes (not that I've ever been able to figure those out!) for the evening and stick with a light foundation, barely there eye makeup and lipstick or gloss during the day.
Author's Note: I am hardly an expert on beauty- in fact I don't think I've ever washed my makeup off before bed and I sometimes go days without shaving my legs (heck weeks if it's winter and I'm single!) but hey that's what makes us human!
As of September 29th I'm also linking up to Silverstyle's Trending Through the Decades challenge (I know, I know this photo was taken three weeks ago but I LOVE animal print and didn't have time to take another outfit before the challenge ended-sorry Tammy!)
Have to agree with pretty much every single beauty tip you've given here, particularly moisturizer - I am addicted!
ReplyDeleteAlso - loving the leopard cardi!
Thanks for sharing your secrets. And I love that ring!
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is bananas! I love it. You can seriously make anything look great
ReplyDeleteWe have the same exact beauty regimen. Showering at night and figuring out what to wear the next day is key. I agree.

Great way to remix that yellow shirt. Love the leopard print cardigan. They seem very big for fall. I definitely agree to mositurizing. It's so very important for all skin types.
ReplyDeleteI'm like you (only I shower in the morning to wake myself up). I actually skip most makeup - chapstick and eyeliner some days. Rarely a bit of lip stick. Some great advice to pass on.
Thanks again for joining the challenge week this time around! Hope you stick around for Fall Trends coming up next month.
Awesome beauty tips! I agree with them all! And I LOVE your outfit. I am going to try to copy it for a train trip I am taking tomorrow. You look so super cute! Your ring is killer and "matches" our shoes... well, coordinates with it. The cardi is an unexpected print over such a soothing, clean, kinda preppy styling! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! Cheers! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThat ring shot is fabu. Love hearing about your routine. The older you get the more time it takes to look good. By the time you are 40 you will be up to 2 hours like me...he he!!! Dawn Suitcase Vignette xo
ReplyDeleteI love the ring!! I never wear rings, but lately I saw so much I would like to own :)
ReplyDeleteCute. I need to get in the habit of getting my clothes ready the night before.
ReplyDeleteLove how you thrifted an on-trend leopard-print cardigan! Yes, I wore the sequined skirt to work...we can get away with a lot more in the summer months, or on days when we're not meeting with either senior management or people outside the organization. Fall/winter will be a little more business!
ReplyDeleteI wanna score a leopard print cardi!
ReplyDeleteThis little leopard print cardigan is so cute! Love the pants as well.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE both your cardigan and those awesome shoes! I'm on a mission to find a leopard print cardi this fall!
ReplyDeleteI love your grey trousers, they are beautiful, think I may need to spy a pair for myself!

I like your honesty about the low-maintenance. My routine is very similar especially because it takes me an hour just to become fully human in the morning.
ReplyDeleteHi there! Just passing through. I love your style and your blog.
ReplyDeleteI have a giveaway going on right now for an awesome statement necklace and just thought you might like it.

I'll keep checking back with your fashion updates. Love them!

Love love love the outfit - the nails are an especially sweet touch! Thrift stores are the best.
ReplyDeleteJust an fyi though, chapstick can actually cause your chapped lips. http://www.cracked.com/article_19426_5-things-you-do-every-day-that-are-actually-addictions.html gives a pretty good explanation of why that is.
My daily beauty regime is liquid eyeliner and waterproof mascara. That's about the only thing that survives a day at my job. (I'm a dog groomer.) Cheers!
Thanks for playing with us. The cardi looks great with those slim pants.
ReplyDeleteGrrrrrrrrrr!
