Tinfoils Tiaras' Origins

I'm always interested in finding out the origins and the reason for someone's blog name.  The first time my Dad saw my blog- he immediately commented on the title- stating its obvious grammatical flaws.  I wanted the name of my blog to be Tinfoil Tiaras but this domain was taken (although not in use since 2003-grrr!)

Why Tinfoil(s) Tiaras? Because I am a sucker for alliterations and fun, affordable clothing.  Tinfoil is an inexpensive material and tiaras represent femininity, fierceness and fashion! The name stuck but I do prefer Tinfoil (without the 's') Tiaras so I am looking into purchasing a domain name.

My sister is a first year University student at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia and she sent me this picture of her wearing a dress made out of tinfoil and a plastic tablecloth for her residence's Anything but Clothes party (ABC)-isn't she cute! I think she really trumped my tube top made of tinfoil- because if there was a slight breeze- my top would be gone with the wind!

While we're on the topic of using recycled material for clothing- check out these inspirational pictures of Alain Guerra and Neraldo de la Paz (Guerra de la Paz) art pieces made out of recycled clothing.  So next time you are doing a closet organizing and are about to donate to thrift stores, look at the pieces in a different light and ask yourself- could my used clothing make an art piece?

On an unrelated but exciting note, one of my favourite bloggers and fellow 30x30 remixers, Silvergirl, chose me as her Blogger Darling of the Day! Check out the post here and make sure to say hello!

You could always just change your header to read Tinfoil Tiaras in the mean time... my title isn't my entire url anymore either... I got sick of it!

  6. Thanks Shybiker :) it was so much fun to make! Sadly it's in the garbage now, I wish I had made it with a zipper instead of just tape!

  10. Glad to hear your blog's story! You should totally purchase a domain name...I did, it was cheap, and it just redirects to my blogspot blog.

I've seen these art-recycled-clothing things before...I love them! So inspiring.

One of my daily joys is reading the lovely comments you leave. It may take a day or two (or three, depending on how hectic life gets!) but I will stop by your slice of the blogosphere soon! xo Emily
