A Fresh Start to a New Beginning

The thing I love most about the New Year is the chance to start fresh; to say goodbye to bad memories and hello to new beginnings.  2010 was definitely a year to remember and some of the highlights included:

~ meeting the boy at a speed dating event which I was attending solely so that my attached friends could live  vicariously through me- funny how life works sometimes!

~ moving to Westboro- I absolutely love this quirky Ottawa neighbourhood especially my most frequented hot spot- Sushi Umi.

~ graduating from Carleton University with my Bachelor of Social Work.

~ starting my blog- this little piece of craziness has provided me with an outlet as well as a great place to meet those with similar interests.

~ finding a good hairdresser- I know this seems materialistic but for a bottle blonde this is a miracle!

Here is some photographic evidence of my low key NYE last year spent with my sister and best friend in Nova Scotia.  The frightening thing? I subconsciously wore the EXACT same headband this NYE and a very similar LBD.  I guess some things never change!

The best friend and I

Please note: we are all wearing my dresses!

Sometimes the gals are better than a boy

2011 is full of uncharted territory and I can't wait to start exploring.  Besides my annual resolution to be healthier (I have already signed up for yoga and Zumba dance classes- let's wait and see how long that lasts!) I wanted to make resolutions that were more meaningful/manageable.  Here is what I came up with:

1) Live long and prosper...no really these were the first words that came out of my mouth at midnight...

2) Look at the glass half full and try to see positivity in the bleakest of situations (now that I think about it, this might be more shortlived than the health nut resolution as I am known to enjoy the occasional moaning and complaining session!)

3) Manage my finances in a responsible and adult manner.  The boy has already suggested we lock up my credit card and get me a pre-paid card instead (oh boo hoo what's the fun in that?) But in all seriousness, this is a resolution I want to see make its way into 2012.

4) Take up a new hobby/learn a new skill.  My top choices are learning how to play the guitar; cooking (the boy would really appreciate this!); becoming a Zen yoga type warrior and/or writing a book.

Buck's Fizz- England's delicious answer to the Mimosa

Scones? No, these were actually my pathetic attempt at sugar cookies if you can believe it! (I blame it on the British to American conversions!)

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!! What are your NY Resolutions?

  1. Happy New Year! It looks like you had a blast on NYE, and that 2010 was a good year for you. I hope that 2011 brings you everything you wish for.

Personally I never make resolutions... at least no real ones, but I think I might have to make some up.

  2. The similar outfit really isn't a surprise: we all have tendencies that surface regularly.

Last year was a big one for you and this year looks to be even bigger!

One of my daily joys is reading the lovely comments you leave. It may take a day or two (or three, depending on how hectic life gets!) but I will stop by your slice of the blogosphere soon! xo Emily
