Suits his Style

I have a clear memory of vacationing in Toronto as a kid and noticing all the homeless men on the streets.  Discovering that they didn't have a place to call home, my youthful innocence wavered as I received my first glimpse of how unfair society can be.  I remember telling my parents I wanted to open a homeless shelter when I grew up.  Although I haven't reached that goal, I am very excited to share that myself and a group of passionate Ottawa individuals have founded Suits his Style (ShS).  ShS is an organization that works to relieve the poverty of local men in need by providing them with interview and work appropriate clothing at no cost.

I've worked at Dress for Success Ottawa for three years but there is no equivalent program for men and a pressing need. We have started collecting donations of gently used, professional men's attire for ShS and hope to be suiting men by late April.  Ottawa is a very altruistic city and we are looking to the community and local residents for all the support we can get.  My neighbourhood newspaper, Kitchissippi Times wrote an article on ShS which was published today and pictured below.

You can follow ShS on Facebook, twitter or send us an e-mail SuitshisStyle{at}gmail.com for more information!

  2. What wonderful compassion you have, Emily. Too many people lack that. There's a large -- and sadly growing -- need for exactly this type of social action. We all need to support it.

One of my daily joys is reading the lovely comments you leave. It may take a day or two (or three, depending on how hectic life gets!) but I will stop by your slice of the blogosphere soon! xo Emily
