orangey-red

Skirt, Blouse, Silver Ring, Purse, Flower Pin & Shoes- Thrifted; Flower Ring- Boutique in Hawaii; Turquoise Necklace- Boutique in St. Kitts; Silver Necklace- RW&CO; Nail Polish- Coral Pink by Sally Hansen

This lovely thrifted orangey (I've decided this is an acceptable descriptive term) red piece is a welcome addition to my pencil skirt collection. I love how pencil skirts create a natural feminine silhouette but I find them very difficult to walk in (especially when boarding a bus or walking up stairs).  You have to hike your skirt up (to Britney Spears length) and swing your legs around in a very unladylike, robotic way.   Oh well sometimes fashion can be awkward or uncomfortable and that's ok by me!

A year ago I was wearing another vintage-esque outfit:

It's the last weekend before we put our condo on the market so it's cleaning crackdown (interspersed with a wine & cheese hosted by A Fine Balance- I'll be making a tofu faux cheesecake to stay on my vegan diet & an evening at a nature spa with my colleagues at Lilac Lingerie)Do you have any fun plans?

  1. I love this orange-y skirt! Yep, I agree that orange-y is a term! Also, I agree, pencil skirts can be a challenge, I drive an SUV and was wearing one the other day and found it hard to get in and out of my car!

A wine and cheese party sounds fun and so does the spa - enjoy!!

  5. i'm all for suffering for fashion! i wear wedges to walk around in all the time because they look cuter than my flats :) and i'm laughing at the skirt thing cuz sometimes i have a hard time getting into my car with some of my skirts and i literally have to catapult myself into my seat!!! love that bright red skirt and the floral top. looks great with the aqua necklace too!

  10. I have a ton of skirts that make walking an arduous task, but if they look good, they're staying in the closet. FO SHO. I really like how you combined the orangey skirt with that top! Very librarian chic!

  15. Pencil skirts are my favorite, despite the walking difficulties. How did the tofu cheesecake turn out?

  16. You just described why I stopped buying pencil skirts and wear mostly full-skirts despite my preference for the pencil-skirt shape. I prefer the freedom of my legs. I've also stopped wearing really high heels for similar reasons. I tend to keep my knees/ankles too stiff.

I do love the color of your skirt, and the shape too - I just wish fashion was more comfortable sometimes!

  17. I really like that skirt/blouse combination, the orange from the skirt makes the blouse pop!

It's always fun to see what other fashionista's are up to around the city, I find myself making time to read almost every post of your lately!!

Check out my blog if you have time, I only began a few months ago but I'm having a lot of fun with it.

  18. This is one of my favoriet color combinations. The orangy red with that soft pink color is delicious. The tiny, delicate floral print of the blouse is so pretty too.

One of my daily joys is reading the lovely comments you leave. It may take a day or two (or three, depending on how hectic life gets!) but I will stop by your slice of the blogosphere soon! xo Emily
