walk an hour in her (animal print) shoes

Pants, Top, Shoes & Jewellery- Thrifted; Vest- Smart Set; Finger Nail Polish- Minted & Seafoam by Revlon; Toe Nail Polish- by LA Colors
I went a little crazy at the thrift stores last week (because a true thriftaholic can't resist 50% sales!) so now my wallet (and my feet) are paying the price! These animal print Chinese Laundry sandals, although adorable, are extremely painful as I'm just breaking them in (they still had the price tag on them). After walking for over an hour today my poor tootsies are blistered and aching- good thing my lunching friend had blister bandaids (with special medication so they heal faster!)

On a positive (hey, let's not complain this whole blog post) note, I started a 30 day vegan (whole foods, plant based diet) health tune-up on Saturday with the Wellness Warrior and am feeling so rejuvenated and energetic! This morning I had a green smoothie for breakfast and am more excited about cooking than I've ever been before (I'll share some recipes and photos with you all over the month).  As I've blogged about before, animal rights and not supporting factory farming is something I'm very passionate about so this switch from lacto-vegetarian to vegan just seemed like the next natural step for me.  I do love me some havarti cheese though so I'll have to let you know how I find the non-dairy substitute!

Although my feet were in pain, there was beauty on my walk-like these aromatic lilacs on the side of the highway.  Speaking of lilacs, Lilac Lingerie (where I work part-time as their blogger/stylist) just launched their new website and now you can even shop online!

Now how would you like to walk a mile hour in my (animal print, animal loving) shoes?

  1. Those pants are amazing. I am constantly on the lookout for printed pants this spring and summer. And those are just fab!

Love the lilacs too; they are one of my favorite flowers!

  2. This outfit is just so much fun! I love the mixing of that bold floral print and the animal print shoes. I hope those shoes will start getting a little more comfortable soon since they are so adorable! Also excited to hear about trying out a vegan diet and the launch of their website. So great!

  4. Emily, I also recall having those shoes and being in pain while wearing them. It sucks because they are so cute and they do look great on you. When do you actually give up comfort for look? This is a question I'm sure most women have to deal with on a daily basis when it comes to their shoes...lol
Good luck with your new vegan diet and your wonderful cause :-)

  5. You have to try Daiya vegan cheese. You can find it at Whole Foods. It comes in a bunch of flavors and it actually melts unlike other brands of vegan cheese. It's great on pizza. Here in San Francisco, a lot of the pizza places have Daiya vegan cheese as an option. It's so good!

Are you also going vegan with your wardrobe (no silk, wool, leather, etc)?

  6. Totally allergic to lilacs. I get a massive migraine every time I smell them :(
But shoes should always be broken in on grocery shopping trips and not busy days of work! I subconsciously must have known today would be rough running around, so I wore flats. So glad!!

  7. I agree with Sage, and love the vegan cheese. Although, I am not vegan anymore, I am vegetarian. I love the printed trousers, such lovely colours. Breaking in shoes are always a bit tricky. xo

  12. Breaking in shoes is seriously the worst - definitely one of my least favorite fashion tasks. On the plus side, they look amazing paired with those printed pants!

  13. Omg I love these pants!! Good luck with the 30 day vegan! I've never been able to find a decent cheese substitute, but I haven't tried in a while. Maybe there are better ones now!

  15. I thrifted a pair of really cute shoes one time that REFUSED to be broken in. My husband and I joked that the devil had donated them, they were that bad. I hope yours aren't like that, they are seriously awesome. :)

Good for you going vegan. I can't give up dairy or eggs, but I try to purchase them responsibly - I'm with you on reducing reliance on factory farming. Good luck in your faux havarti search!

  16. What?? You thrifted those floral pants? They're so on trend! I love them!

That's great that you're going vegan. I'd love to try going vegetarian or organic for a month... but I'd have to get the Hubs on board. And give up my Starbucks and potato chips, so... I'm not so sure about that. lol

  17. I love your style, Emily. It's not far from mine.

And I didn't know what "twee" meant either! When I read it on Jenn's blog, I had to go look it up.

  18. I love those shoes, I'm sorry they haven't been good to you! I think it's awesome that you are sticking to your goals when it comes to eating. Although I don't want to go vegetarian, I would like to be better about eating local and more sustainably.

One of my daily joys is reading the lovely comments you leave. It may take a day or two (or three, depending on how hectic life gets!) but I will stop by your slice of the blogosphere soon! xo Emily
