tiaraiconthe best from 2011

As 2011 is coming to a close (where does the time go?) I wanted to share a compilation of my favourite looks from 2011. Instead of showcasing the full outfit, I thought it would be neat to show snippets of the looks. Because I believe that accessorizing is the key to a fab ensemble! (If you look carefully, you'll notice my nails are painted a different colour in every photo. Nail polish= a fun, easy and affordable way of accessorizing!)

"Maybe the best any of us can do is not quit, play the hand we've been given, and accessorize the outfit we've got!"

Happy New Year-may you ring 2012 in with style!

{I'm linking up to Silverstyle's Trending Through the Decades: Christmas Edition with this festive ensemble}

I'm baaaackkk! Did you miss me? I sure missed you- 2 weeks away from blogging felt like an eternity! I hope you enjoyed the guest bloggers I had lined up- thanks to Brett, Shea, Tiffany, Heather & Kayla, Dawn and Tracy for your fun-filled and festive posts!

I had an amazing time in Nova Scotia- I even (briefly) contemplated moving back home! My whole family lives out East and even though I moved away over 5 years ago, I still get homesick and wish I could see everyone more often! My man and I spent a week with my Mum, Step-Dad and sister in an 18th century farmhouse (which they are in the process of converting into a Bed & Breakfast) and a week with my Dad, Step-Mom, sister and step-sisters in the house I grew up in.

{My Mum & Step-Dad's house in Upper Granville (follow their B&B adventures here)}
{The house I grew up in where my Dad, Step-Mom and step-sisters now live}
{Dress- Thrifted; Cape- Gifted (from my Mum); Brooch- Gifted (from my sister); Bracelet- Gifted (from my man); Boots-Aldo; Ring-H&M}

There were lots of homecooked meals, late-night chats and family jokes and here are some of my highlights from Christmas 2011:

**snuggling together by the wood-stove (which heats my Mum and Step-Dad's whole house so this is where we spent about 85% of our time in the valley!)

**attending an art gallery opening in the countryside, where my Mum is a Board member (I bought a neat Christmas lights photograph for my man and this eclectic Christmas tree for my Mum and Step-Dad:)

**teaching my first Zumba class to my Mum`s friends

{My sister, Mum and I practicing for Zumba!}
**going thrifting at Guy`s Frenchy`s where I basically got a whole new wardrobe for under $120! (You can check out all my purchases here)

{My new dress from Frenchy's and my Mum's beautiful washroom cabinets}
**the food (particularly greasy garlic cheese fingers which I can`t find in Ottawa; a veggie Christmas meal thanks to my Dad and homemade candy cane truffles)

**being silly with my younger sister, who I only see a couple of times a year but who is one of the smiliest, sweetest girls you`ll ever meet

**late-night meal and Fishbowl Friday with my Dad and Step-Mom at Boston Pizza

**watching It`s a Wonderful Life (my first time seeing it!) with my best-friend from High School who is now an art student at one of the country`s most prestigious art schools

{The adorable peacocks my friend made from modelling clay and feathers}
**and most importantly, relaxing, enjoying the company of others without the everyday stresses

{My man is the king of relaxation!}
I hope everyone had (or is having, depending on how long your vacation is) a restful, relaxing and rejuvenating holiday season!
     I look forward to catching up on all the blog posts I missed!

tiaraiconHappy Holidays from The Closet Shopper!

Hi you guys. I’m Tracy from The Closet Shopper.  I was thrilled when Emily asked me to be one of her guest posters while she’s away on Holiday. I’ve been a big fan of her blog for awhile now. I’m a daily stalker of hers. Stalker in a good way, you know. She’s such a sweet and beautiful girl and I’m very proud to call her my friend.

Emily asked me to post about what I would wear to a Holiday party. I thought I’d post a couple of different looks.

My first look is what I would wear to an office party. The outfit is sparkly and festive but it can also be worn at the office for the entire day. It’s a little fancier than office attire but  it’s party day, so it won’t look super out of place.  I’m wearing a vintage sequin sweater along with a pair of very bright pink pants from Old Navy.  To top it off, I’m wearing this amazing tweed blazer by Funktional. I also decided to wear my one and only pair of Christian Louboutin patent peep-toe pumps. There you have it.  My office party look.

My second look is what I would wear for my birthday night out or New Year’s Eve. My birthday is December 27th so my husband usually takes me to a very fancy dinner. I’m wearing a vintage sequin dress along with a silver sequin jacket from Nordstrom. I threw on my Jessica Simpson sexy peep-toe pumps and this dark purple clutch by Lorelei. I put my hair in a very messy bun so that I felt a little more fancy than a normal night out. Tons of sparkly jewelry and that’s it. I hope you enjoyed my take on Holiday party outfits.

{Emily's note: Wowza- doesn't Tracy look just stunning in both these festive ensembles!?! If anyone can pull off hot pink pants and sequins galore it's her! P.S. Blog stalking is appreciated and encouraged here on Tinfoil Tiaras!}

tiaraiconHappy Holidays from Suitcase Vignettes!

Hi Everyone, I'm  Dawn from Suitcase Vignettes. Nice to meet you.  When Emily emailed me asking if I would guest post for her, I had no hesitation.  This is my first time as a guest and I am thrilled and honored to have this opportunity to help her out.  Emily is one of the most adorable, funny, genuine, thrift loving, fashionistas that I have ever met through blogging.  I love how she refers to her boyfriend as "my man".  It is so cute and sassy.   So, here I am.  Emily asked me to do a holiday post and one of my most favorite things to do in the world is to put together little vignettes or things that go together using thrifted, vintage items.  I love when random items put together seem to blend into a sweet vintage theme. I began with 2 open, pink frames and  two small, wooden, mirrored shelves and built upon them adding small treasures that I have found during my thrifting journeys.  It's easy and fun!   Wishing you and your loved ones lovely little vintage holidays.

Lots of love, Dawn Suitcase Vignettes xo

{Emily's note: Dawn makes the neatest vignettes- check out her spooky DIY Halloween haunted house here. You can catch a glimpse of the creative fashionista herself in the 'Believe' frame above- isn't her long red hair just gorgeous?!}

tiaraiconHappy Holidays from H&K Style Journey!

Happy Holidays Tinfoil Tiaras Readers!  We are Heather and Kayla from H&K Style Journey.  Thank you so much to Emily for asking us to guest post for her and share with all of you a little bit of holiday cheer and some of the things we love to do during the holiday season!

We do bi-weekly Mother/Daughter remixes over at our blog, so we thought we would start off with a little bit of fashion.  Since the holidays are just around the corner, we thought we would attempt to remix a holiday sweater.  Sometimes holiday sweaters get a bad name, but we wanted to give it a try.

Our favorite holiday tradition is baking cookies.  We usually do a variety of several different cookies, but the family favorite is Peanut Blossoms.

Heather, Miss M, and Stringer the dog getting ready to bake. Please excuse our messy kitchen! Apparently we need a little bit of cleaning on the wall behind the stove. So embarrassing!
The finished product!
Another favorite tradition is heading to the zoo for the holiday light display.  The zoo puts up three million lights for the season!

Kayla and her boyfriend (aww, so sweet)
A very small look at all the holiday lights
And of course the holiday music.  We love so many different songs it's hard to pick a favorite.  We like everything from traditional Christmas music such as Little Drummer Boy, The First Noel, and Silent Night to upbeat music like Rocking Around the Christmas Tree and All I Want for Christmas is You.
Thank you Emily for asking us to share some of our favorite holiday traditions!  We at H&K Style Journey wish all of you a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and hopefully Santa brings you everything  you wish for this holiday season!

{Emily's note: can you believe that Heather & Kayla thrifted this adorable Liz Claiborne holly & berry sweater from Goodwill for only $4? These two know how to give Christmas sweaters a good reputation! Plus they've inspired my sister and Mum to do a family remix edition!}

tiaraiconHappy Holidays from Breakfast with Tiffany!

Hi! I'm Tiffany from over at Breakfast with Tiffany! When Emily approached me about doing a little guest post for Christmas, of course, I was thrilled! I love Emily! I mean, who wouldn't? She's super sweet and has such incredibly fierce style.  And I love Christmas, too, so it's kinda perfect. =)

Now, about Christmas . . .

I love every single thing about Christmas, this day we have to celebrate the birth of Jesus!  The festive mood that greets you everywhere you go, the Christmas lights, the cheery music, the scrumptious food, the excuses to wear sparkles and sequins and festive tights.

Speaking of sparkles and sequins and festive tights, I managed to combine all of that into one Christmas party appropriate look. =)

Dress & Tights: Target
Cardi & Clutch: Maurices
Steve Madden Booties: 6pm.com
Necklace: Poshlocket

I love to dress festively during the Christmas season and usually, I'll do it with little touches of "festiveness," per se. lol  I like to add red tights or wear red and green in a subtle way.  I like to add a bit of sparkle or bling to my outfits. But I'm not really a fan of sporting the big ole Christmas sweaters, even ones that are actually cute like this one.

Sweater: American Eagle
Jeans: Eddie Bauer
Boots: Shoedazzle

See, even when their appearance actually deems them to be wearable, on me, they're just itchy. And if there's one thing I hate, it's an itchy sweater. lol

So, How do you dress "up" for the holidays?  Do you like to go bold in Christmas sweaters or do you like to add just a little red or green to your wardrobe?

{Emily's note: I agree with Tiffany, itchy sweaters are a no-go (I can't go anywhere near wool for this reason!) Tiffany looks stunning in red-what a festive fashionista!}

tiaraiconHappy Holidays from Bon Chic Bon Gastronomique!

Bonjour Tinfoil Tiaras readers, I’m Shea from Bon Chic Bon Gastronomique. While Emily is spending some time with her family, she asked me to drop by and talk a little about what I love during the holidays.

Aside from the cold weather, there’s not much I don’t love about the holiday season.  However one thing at the top of my list is Christmas music. I’m one of those nerds that starts listening to Christmas music in November (early November), and I find it difficult to stop even when Christmas day has passed.

I’m not too picky; I enjoy everything from Mariah Carey to Bing Crosby. However, my all time favorite album is Natalie Cole’s Holly and Ivy. My best friend had it when we were in high school, and I remember listening to it in her car. I ended up getting my own copy, and it’s one I never get tired of.

What are your favorite Christmas albums?

Sweater: Loft Outlet; Dress: Jack by BB Dakota; Earrings: gift; Necklace: Towne & Reese; Belt: Loft; Tights: Gap; Shoes: Isaac Mizrahi for Target

{Emily's note: Shea has the best collection of sweaters- something I should duplicate especially living in Canada! I youtubed Holly and Ivy by Natalie Cole and can easily see how it's one of She's favourite holiday albums-her voice is breathtaking!}

tiaraiconHappy Holidays from Silvergirl!

Hi my name is Brett from Silvergirl.
I was thrilled to be asked by Emily to guest host.
My favorite things about the holidays are the music!! and the parties!!!
NO, not because I am a wild party monster (thankfully those days are behind me!)
I am talking about the parties with your friends where you share food, maybe a cocktail or two and lots of fabulous conversation and possibly a litte dancing.
Eveyone is relaxed, dressed up and in good spirits.
I just love the spectacle of it all.
The decorations, food and excitement.

Here is an outfit I wore last year to a casual get together with friends.
I love this outfit because it has the elements I love the most...
Casual mixed with fun and festive.
Sequins are not just for the red carpet anymore!

Merry Christmas to you all!
XOXO, Brett

{Emily's note: Sequins and plaid-what a fun and festive outfit-just like Brett herself! And if you haven't stopped by her blog yet- I highly recommend it.  Not just for the fashion but also for the 'Awkward & Awesome Thursdays' that always have me laughing out loud! }
